After a thrilling opening week of games, NFL Week 2 looks to deliver more of the same starting with a Thursday Night Football clash of two AFC West rivals as the Los Angeles Chargers travel to face the defending division champion Kansas City Chiefs. This is a meeting between two of the best quarterbacks in the league between Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes and rising young elite passer Justin Herbert of the Chargers. And it is only right that we create a Chargers vs Chiefs parlay for this battle of gifted passers.
Both the Chiefs and the Chargers are coming off wins where their high powered offenses led the way to opening week success. Kansas City ran it up against the Arizona Cardinals, scoring 40+ to open the season in a 44-21 demolition of the Cardinals. Things were a bit closer for the Chargers in their season opener as Herbert opened up a big 17-3 first half lead before the defense held Derek Carr and Davante Adams at bay for a 24-19 rivalry game win.
With two of the best young quarterbacks in the game squaring off, there are sure to be offensive fireworks on Thursday night. With that in mind, let’s take a look at some prop bets to consider when building a Chargers vs Chiefs Same Game Parlay for this AFC West showdown.
Pick 1 | Los Angeles Chargers +4.5 (-112) |
Pick 2 | Justin Herbert Over 279.5 Passing Yards (-113) |
Pick 3 | Travis Kelce Over 80.5 Receiving Yards (-113) |
Parlay Odds | +493 ($20 to win $98.73) |
Pick #1: Los Angeles Chargers +4.5 (-112)
The Chargers came into Kansas City last year in September and came out of Arrowhead Stadium with a win that had many high on the Bolts as a playoff team. Unfortunately for them, the team fell just short of the postseason after losing three of their final four games that included a home loss to the Chiefs in the Week 15 rematch.
The good news for the Chargers is it looks like the team will take the next step this season as a playoff team. Pass rusher Khalil Mack has joined the ranks and a clean bill of health for their key contributors will also be a huge boost along with another year of development from Herbert as the signal caller at quarterback.
There is a lot to like about the Chargers this year and with a recent track record of keeping things close if not beating the Chiefs in their meetings, the +4.5 is the side that interests me the most in this game.

Pick #2: Justin Herbert Over 279.5 Passing Yards (-113)
Herbert threw for 281 yards in last year’s win in Arrowhead and threw for exactly 279 yards in Week 1 against the Raiders in a game where the Chargers were running out the clock and holding onto a two-score halftime lead.
The 2021 game logs lean to Herbert throwing for over his passing yardage total as the Chargers gunslinger eclipsed 280 yards or more in 10 games last season. Factoring in the likelihood the Chargers will be trying to match the Chiefs high powered offense, Herbert should get busy through the air and chase the 300 yard mark for the first time this season.

Pick #3: Travis Kelce Over 80.5 Receiving Yards (-113)
Last week we backed Travis Kelce to benefit from the departure of Tyreek Hill and for the second straight week, we are taking the receiving yardage over for the star tight end.
Kelce exploded against the Cardinals, catching eight passes on nine targets for 121 yards and a touchdown. He rewarded prop bettors who saw the added opportunity for Kelce in an offense where the tight end has to share the ball a lot less, something that frustrated fantasy owners in recent years where he would spend equal time as a decoy as he would as the guy catching the passes.
Kelce dominated against the Chargers last season, eclipsing 100 yards in both contests and caught two touchdowns in the Chiefs Week 15 win. It is likely he will do it again as AFC West opponents continue to be the victim of Kelce’s consistency at tight end.

Chargers vs Chiefs Preview
Over bettors will be encouraged by the high scoring between the two teams in their 2021 meetings. Last year’s games had final scores of 30-24 and 34-28 respectively, leading the oddsmakers to post a total of 54 for Thursday Night Football.
Justin Herbert is undefeated at Arrowhead Stadium, winning his first two games against the Chiefs on the road. Herbert is equally as unsuccessful in home games against KC, holding an opposite 0-2 record in LA against the Chiefs.
On the other side of the quarterback matchup, Patrick Mahomes is extremely successful against the Chargers. The star quarterback has a 5-2 lifetime record against Kansas City, but both of his losses to the Chargers have come to Justin Herbert at Arrowhead Stadium. He will look to get his first win at home over Herbert as the quarterbacks look to break their 2-2 deadlock in meetings between two of the NFL’s best passers.
