The DFS market is no longer just DraftKings vs FanDuel. Those two still matter for classic salary-cap contests, but the growth of best ball, pick'em, player projections and social-style fantasy apps has changed how users compare DFS platforms. Here are the top DFS sites and apps to consider in 2026.
DraftKings is the strongest all-around DFS site for users who want classic daily fantasy contests. Its main edge is lobby depth. Players can usually find salary-cap contests, guaranteed prize pools, head-to-heads, 50/50s, beginner contests, best ball formats and newer Pick6-style options from the same ecosystem.
DraftKings is not always the simplest option for total beginners because large-field contests can be competitive. But for users who want real DFS lineup building, a wide range of sports and enough contest volume to choose between casual and higher-stakes formats, it remains one of the top choices in the market.

FanDuel is one of the best DFS sites for users who want a familiar brand, a clean app and straightforward daily fantasy contests. It is especially useful for players who want classic DFS formats without the app feeling overloaded.
FanDuel's biggest strength is accessibility. New users can understand the contest lobby quickly, while experienced players still get access to major-sport DFS contests, head-to-head games, 50/50 contests and large prize pools. The main drawback is that traditional DFS contests still attract skilled players, so beginners should start with smaller contests and lower entry fees.

Worst Features
Underdog Fantasy is one of the best DFS apps for best ball, drafts and mobile-first fantasy contests. It is less about building a full salary-cap lineup every day and more about quick drafts, season-long-style tournament formats and player pick'em-style entries where available.
Underdog is a strong fit for NFL users, best ball players and anyone who wants a simpler fantasy experience than traditional DFS. The tradeoff is that its contest availability can vary by state, especially for pick'em-style products, so users should check local rules and in-app availability before signing up.
Best Features
Worst Features
PrizePicks is one of the most recognizable pick'em-style fantasy apps. Instead of building a full DFS lineup under a salary cap, users select player projections and choose whether each player will go more or less than the posted number.
This makes PrizePicks easy to understand for users who are new to daily fantasy. The downside is that it is not a replacement for full DFS contests. It is better viewed as a simple player-projection platform, and contest availability can vary by state based on product rules and local regulation.
Best Features
Worst Features
Sleeper Fantasy is a strong option for users who already play season-long fantasy football, dynasty, keeper or redraft leagues. Its main advantage is that fantasy tools, league chat and pick'em-style features can live inside the same app ecosystem.
Sleeper is not the best fit for every DFS player. Users who want the largest classic DFS tournaments will usually prefer DraftKings or FanDuel. But for a younger, mobile-first fantasy audience, Sleeper deserves a place near the top of the comparison.
Launched in September 2020, OwnersBox Fantasy is best known for SuperFlex DFS and Lightning Lineups. That gives it a different feel from both traditional salary-cap DFS sites and simple pick'em apps.
OwnersBox works best for users who want an alternative draft-style experience across major sports such as NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL. It is not as broadly known as DraftKings or FanDuel, but the format is different enough to make it worth comparing if you want something beyond standard lineup building.
Best Features
Worst Features
ParlayPlay is a pick'em-style fantasy platform built around quick player-projection entries. Its games include Higher/Lower contests and Hit-It contests, which are easier to understand than traditional salary-cap DFS lineups.
ParlayPlay is best for users who want a fast, prop-style fantasy experience. It is not the best choice for full DFS tournament players, but it can be useful for casual users who prefer selecting a small group of player outcomes instead of building a full roster.

Player Need | Best DFS Site | Why |
|---|---|---|
Best for classic DFS tournaments | DraftKings | Deep salary-cap lobby and strong contest volume. |
Best for casual classic DFS | FanDuel | Cleaner app experience and familiar DFS formats. |
Best for NFL best ball | Underdog Fantasy | Best ball and draft-style fantasy are core parts of the product. |
Best for player projections | PrizePicks | Simple more-or-less fantasy contests. |
Best fantasy league ecosystem | Sleeper | Strong fit for users who play redraft, keeper and dynasty fantasy leagues. |
Best non-traditional draft format | OwnersBox | SuperFlex DFS and Lightning Lineups feel different from standard DFS. |
Best parlay-style fantasy card | ParlayPlay | Fast player-pick format for casual users. |
Best free-to-play/social alternative | Fliff | Not a traditional DFS site, but useful for users comparing fantasy-style and social sportsbook products. |
For traditional daily fantasy sports, DraftKings and FanDuel are the two strongest overall apps because they offer the deepest classic DFS contest ecosystems. For best ball, Underdog Fantasy is one of the strongest options. For simple player projections, PrizePicks and Sleeper are better fits for many users.
The best fantasy football app depends on the format. DraftKings and FanDuel are best for traditional DFS football contests, Underdog Fantasy is one of the best options for NFL best ball, and Sleeper is one of the best apps for season-long fantasy football leagues.
DraftKings and FanDuel are the two biggest names in traditional daily fantasy sports. Both platforms offer large contest lobbies, major-sport coverage and familiar DFS formats where users build fantasy lineups from real athletes and score points based on real-game statistics.
No DFS site is easy to win at consistently. Beginners should avoid large-field tournaments at first and focus on smaller contests, beginner contests, head-to-heads, 50/50s and double-ups where available. Pick'em-style apps are easier to understand, but that does not make them easy to beat.
Beyond the biggest DFS brands, there are several smaller or more specialized fantasy platforms worth knowing. Some are true DFS sites, while others are better described as pick'em, player-projection, social sportsbook or sweepstakes-style alternatives. That distinction matters because the rules, availability and user experience can differ significantly.
ThriveFantasy
ThriveFantasy focuses on player-prop-style fantasy contests rather than traditional salary-cap DFS. It can be useful for users who want a simpler pick-based format, but it should be compared against other projection-style apps rather than judged only against DraftKings or FanDuel. Jock MKT built its identity around a stock-market-style fantasy format where users buy and sell player shares. It is a niche option, but it is worth knowing if you want a DFS product that feels different from salary caps and pick'em cards. Get more details in our Jock MKT review.
Fliff is not a traditional DFS site. It is better categorized as a social sportsbook or sweepstakes-style platform, but it is relevant for users comparing fantasy-style sports products that may be available in states where online sportsbooks are limited. Read more in our Fliff Social review.
One reason DFS pages can be confusing is that the market now includes several different product types. A salary-cap DFS site, a best ball app, a pick'em platform and a social sportsbook-style app can all appear in the same search results, but they do not play the same way.
Product Type | How It Works | Best Examples |
|---|---|---|
Salary-cap DFS | Build a lineup under a salary cap and compete against other users based on fantasy points. | DraftKings, FanDuel |
Pick'em fantasy | Select player outcomes, usually more or less than a posted projection. | PrizePicks, Sleeper, ParlayPlay, Dabble, BetR Picks |
Best ball | Draft a team and let the best-scoring players automatically count each week or slate. | Underdog Fantasy, DraftKings |
Alternative draft contests | Use different roster structures, drafts or quick-pick mechanics rather than standard salary-cap lineups. | OwnersBox, Jock MKT |
Social or sweepstakes-style sports apps | Use free-to-play or social-currency style sports picks, often with cash-prize options. | Fliff |
Daily fantasy sports is a shorter-form version of fantasy sports. Instead of drafting one team for an entire season, DFS users enter contests built around a single slate, day, week or tournament. The players in your lineup score fantasy points based on their real-game performance.
In traditional DFS, you usually build a lineup while staying under a salary cap. In pick'em-style fantasy, you usually select player outcomes instead of building a full roster. In best ball, you draft a roster and the app automatically counts your highest-scoring eligible players. Because these formats are different, the best DFS site depends heavily on what kind of fantasy product you actually want.
DFS contests vary by operator, sport and state. These are the main formats users should understand before choosing a DFS app.
GPP tournaments are large-field DFS contests with a guaranteed prize pool. They can offer big payouts, but they are also high variance because you usually need to beat a large number of entries to finish near the top.
In 50/50 contests, users generally need to finish in the top half of the field to win. These contests are usually lower variance than large tournaments, although the payout upside is also lower.
Double-ups are similar to 50/50 contests, but the goal is usually to double the entry fee by finishing above the payout line. They are often grouped with cash games and can be useful for users who prefer a more conservative DFS style.
Head-to-head DFS contests match one lineup against another lineup. The higher-scoring entry wins. This format is simple, but opponent selection and contest selection still matter.
Pick'em contests usually ask users to choose player outcomes rather than build a full fantasy roster. These contests are popular because they are easier to understand, but availability and rules can differ sharply by state.
Best ball contests let users draft a roster without making weekly lineup decisions. The app automatically counts the best eligible scores. This format is especially popular for NFL fantasy football.
Most major DFS sites and fantasy apps cover the biggest U.S. sports, but the exact sports and contest types vary by platform. Common DFS sports include:
Daily fantasy sports is widely available in the United States, but DFS legality is not identical in every state. Federal law created a fantasy sports carveout under the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, but states still decide how fantasy contests, paid entries, pick'em products and operator availability are handled locally.
Note: DFS legality and platform availability vary by state and can change based on regulator guidance, product structure and operator decisions. The information below reflects publicly available sources and operator availability as of July 2026.
The safest way to think about DFS legality is to separate traditional fantasy contests from newer pick'em-style products. DraftKings and FanDuel salary-cap DFS may be available in a state where certain player-projection products are restricted, modified or unavailable. Always check the operator's state rules before creating an account or entering paid contests.

Follow these basic steps to create a DFS account and start entering contests where available in your state.
Good DFS play starts with contest selection. A strong lineup can still lose money if it is entered into the wrong contest type, while a less aggressive lineup may work better in cash games, 50/50s or double-ups. Use these principles before entering paid contests.

What Is Daily Fantasy Sports?
Daily fantasy sports, or DFS, is a fantasy sports format where users build lineups or make player picks for a shorter contest window, such as one slate, day, week or tournament. Scoring is based on real player statistics.
How Does DFS Differ From Traditional Fantasy Sports?
Traditional fantasy sports usually run for a full season. DFS contests are shorter and often let you draft a new lineup for each slate, week or contest. Best ball and pick'em-style products are different again, so the format matters.
Can I Play Daily Fantasy Sports Legally?
DFS is widely available in the United States, but legality and platform availability vary by state. Traditional salary-cap DFS, best ball and pick'em-style contests may be treated differently depending on local rules and operator decisions.
Are DFS Contests Free To Enter?
Some DFS contests are free to enter, but many paid DFS contests require an entry fee. Free contests, bonuses, promo credits and paid contests vary by platform and state.
What Are the Best DFS Sites?
DraftKings and FanDuel are the best options for traditional DFS contests. Underdog Fantasy is one of the best choices for best ball, while PrizePicks, Sleeper and ParlayPlay are stronger fits for users who prefer pick'em-style player projections.
