On Sunday, the winner of the Buccaneers vs Lions matchup from Detroit will advance to the NFC Championship Game. Given the recent histories of these teams, Tom Brady era in Tampa Bay not withstanding, and just having an opportunity like this can be viewed as a huge win. But only one team can actually get the win in this game and the benefits that come with it.
Our best bet for Buccaneers vs Lions is for the Detroit Lions to win and cover the spread at home. While the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were very impressive last week against the Philadelphia Eagles, something was very clearly not quite right with Philadelphia in the second half of the season. Now the Bucs have to go on the road in what will be an incredibly hostile environment, which will not go the way the Buccaneers want it to go.
It is also worth noting that this is not the first meeting between these teams this season. The Lions won 20-6 over the Buccaneers in Tampa earlier in the year, in a game where the Bucs could not get anything going offensively. Tampa Bay was held to 251 total yards in that game, with their running game picking up just 46 yards. Detroit dominated the time of possession battle in that game, which could become a huge factor in this contest as well.
This is also a game where the Lions will benefit from an edge in big-game experience at the quarterback position. Baker Mayfield has yet to win a game in the Divisional round of the playoffs in his NFL career, going 0-1 at this stage of the postseason during his time in the league. Jared Goff, meanwhile, has led the LA Rams to a Super Bowl and should continue to be rock solid at home in what should be a win for the hosts.
