A NFC matchup featuring two teams looking to ride positive momentum into the offseason meet up in Detroit this week as the 6-7 Tampa Bay Buccaneers take on the 3-9-1 Detroit Lions. Tampa is currently on a three game winning streak and the Lions are looking to end their long losing streak and find some momentum as they get ready for the offseason.
Tampa Bay isn’t quite dead yet as they ride a hot Jameis Winston into Week 15. New Orleans has already wrapped up the NFC South, but Tampa Bay are still technically alive in the Wild Card race as they trail Minnesota by three games with three games to go. Most likely Tampa will not make the playoffs and they will have a big decision to make at QB in the offseason.
The Detroit Lions started the season 2-0-1 and it has all been downhill since as Detroit currently find themselves at 3-9-1. If the season ended today the Lions would have the 6th pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Below is my best bet for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the Detroit Lions. All lines are from DraftKings Sportsbook
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-3.5) at Detroit Lions: O/U 47.5 points (-110/-110)
Tampa Bay got the up-and-down Jameis Winston they are used to at this point as the QB threw for 456 yards, four touchdowns and three interceptions in Tampa Bay’s 38-35 win over Indianapolis. The Bucs trailed by 14 late in the third quarter, but outscored Indy 17-0 to end the game and come away with the three point comeback victory. Tampa Bay has now won three straight games and four of their last five. The Bucs are 4-4 on the road this season with wins over the Rams and Panthers, but notable losses to Seattle and New Orleans. Tampa Bay is 4-8-1 against the spread and the over has hit in 10 of their 13 games this season.
The Detroit Lions played in one of the most boring games of the 2019 NFL season, last week, as the fell 20-7 at the Minnesota Vikings. Minnesota led 20-0 until there was just two minutes left in the game and just do not have any chance to win with their third string QB. Detroit has now lost six straight games, all by single digits, and are just looking to get another win before the season ends. The Lions are 2-4 at home this season with wins over the Giants and Chargers, but notable losses to the Cowboys and Bears. Detroit is 5-8 against the spread and the over has hit in eight of their 13 games this season.
Series History: The Detroit Lions have won the last two meetings between these two and now lead the all-time series 31-27.
Prediction: I cannot back the Lions right now, so take Tampa Bay -3.5 Sunday
