At the beginning of the season this Week Six Sunday Night Football matchup seemed like a great one, but six weeks in the Pittsburgh Steelers are 1-4 and playing a third string undrafted rookie at QB and the Los Angeles Chargers are 2-3 and coming off a home loss to the then winless Denver Broncos. Both teams need this win, but the people on the East Coast should be able to go to bed at halftime of this one.
Below are my three best bets for Sunday Night Football. All lines are from FanDuel Sportsbook
Pittsburgh Steelers @ Los Angeles Charges (-6.5): O/U 41.5 points scored (-110/-110)
The Pittsburgh Steelers fell to the Baltimore Ravens in OT last week, but the bigger story was that Pittsburgh is now on to their third string QB, Devlin Hodges. The undrafted rookie from Samford will make his first career start on the road, but a bright spot for him is that the stadium is likely going to be 2/3 full of Steelers fans. Pittsburgh is now 1-4 on the season and do not have their first round pick in next year’s draft to look forward to.
The Los Angeles Chargers disappointing 2019 season continued last week when they fell, at home, 20-13 to the Denver Broncos. The Chargers have now lost three of four with their lone win in that span being against the lowly Dolphins. Los Angeles needs a win this week to stay in the thick of the AFC West race that sees the Kansas City Chiefs at 4-1 and the Oakland Raiders at 3-2.
Series History: The Pittsburgh Steelers leads the all-time series 23-10 after the Chargers came away with a 33-30 win last season in Pittsburgh.
Game Prediction: The Chargers cover easily here.
Alternate Spread: Chargers -13.5 (+200)
I do not see Devlin Hodges leading the Steelers to be competitive in this one, so the Chargers should easily win by two TDs in this one. I see Los Angeles getting a defensive TD in this one, so that will really help the alternate spread in this one. The odds of +200 is pretty good for this kind of spread and it seems like a safe bet to hit.
Over 4.5 TDs scored (-106)
This Steelers team has given up at least 24 points in all but one game this season, they gave up three points against the terrible Bengals, and I expect the Chargers to take advantage of the leaky defense. The Chargers offense has been hit or miss all season long, but, besides for the Dolphins, this will be the worst defense they have played so far. I see the Chargers getting at least four TDs, so just one Steelers TD is needed for this prop to hit. Take over 4.5 TDs scored.
YTD NFL Results: 13-14
