A game featuring two of the top three or four teams in the NFC is on the schedule Week 14 as the San Francisco 49ers travel to the Big Easy to take on the New Orleans Saints. Both teams are well in the race for the top seed in the NFC and a win Sunday will go a long way towards that.
San Francisco enters play at 10-2, but unfortunately for them are in the same division as the Seattle Seahawks and the 49ers find themselves in 2nd place in the NFC West. San Francisco can still control their own destiny if they win out. The 49ers currently occupy the first Wild Card spot.
Thanks to Seattle’s win on Monday Night Football, the New Orleans Saints are now the top seed in the NFC with a 10-2 record. New Orleans beat Seattle earlier this season and are now in the driver’s seat for the top seed, and home field advantage, in the playoffs.
Below is my best bet for the San Francisco 49ers at the New Orleans Saints. All lines are from William Hill Sportsbook
San Francisco 49ers at New Orleans Saints (-3): O/U 44.5 points (-105/-115)
San Francisco went into Baltimore, in the middle of a tough three game stretch, and put up one heck of a fight in terrible weather. The game was a one score game for the full 60 minutes, but ultimately a 49 yard field goal by Justin Tucker gave the Ravens the 20-17 win last weekend. San Francisco has now lost two out of their last four games since starting the season 8-0. The 49ers are 5-1 on the road this season with their lone loss being that one last week against Baltimore. San Francisco is 7-4-1 against the spread and the under has hit in seven of their 12 games this season.
The New Orleans Saints are coming off a mini bye as they are coming off a 26-18 Thanksgiving night win at the Atlanta Falcons. New Orleans never trailed in this game and were in complete control until their hands team could not recover two onside kicks. The Saints have now won three games in a row and appear to be one of the favorites to come out of the NFC. New Orleans is 5-1 at home this season with their lone loss being to the Falcons a few weeks ago. New Orleans is 8-4 against the spread and both the over and under has hit in six of their 12 games this season.
Series History: The New Orleans Saints won the last meeting between these two, but the 49ers lead the all-time series 48-26-2.
NFL Prediction: I think this tough stretch of games finally takes its toll on the 49ers in this one. I am backing New Orleans -3 Sunday.
