Last week, the Philadelphia Stars and Michigan Panthers both made their way to a 1-2 record on the USFL season. Philadelphia did so by losing their game against the New Jersey Generals, while Michigan got their first win against the Pittsburgh Maulers. In Week 4, these 1-2 teams square off, as one of them will leave this Stars vs Panthers matchup with a .500 record.

Why Bet The Stars:
✅ The Michigan Panthers picked up their first win of the season, but did so against the only winless team left in the USFL. They shut out the Pittsburgh Maulers, who have shown that they have the most anemic offense in the USFL thus far. Against a Philadelphia team that is much more proficient at moving the ball, Michigan will come back down to Earth in Week 4.
✅ Michigan played both Paxton Lynch and Shea Patterson in their win over the Maulers last week. They failed to break 3.0 yards per pass attempt between the two of them, which will make them far too one-dimensional to have sustained success against a team like Philadelphia that struggles to contain the run against more diverse offenses.
✅ The Stars may have lost last week, but they held a two-possession lead against the New Jersey Generals before the Generals’ prolific rushing attack took the game over. The offensive output needed to win this game will be far less than what was needed against New Jersey a week ago, which should work to the benefit of the Stars here.
Philadelphia Stars
The Philadelphia Stars dropped to 1-2 on the USFL season last week when they fell to the New Jersey Generals. Despite that 1-2 record, it can be argued that Philadelphia is one of the better teams in the USFL. Their losses have come against the New Orleans Breakers and New Jersey Generals, both of whom have winning records on the season to this point.
This week, the Stars look to take advantage of an opportunity to pick up a win against a team with a losing record in the Michigan Panthers. For the Stars to do so, they will need to simply put a decent offensive game together, as the Panthers are one of the worst offensive teams in the USFL. If the Stars can avoid turnovers and not give away cheap points on those giveaways, they should be able to win this game and even their record at 2-2.
Michigan Panthers
After an 0-2 start, the Michigan Panthers got their first win of the USFL season over the lowly Pittsburgh Maulers. Michigan pitched a shutout in that game, going up 16-0 in the first quarter and never looking back. This week, the Panthers will look to continue to play well on defense to get to .500 themselves.
The problem for the Panthers coming into this game is that they are facing a better offensive team than they did a week ago. Philadelphia’s passing game is at least a respectable unit, unlike the anemic aerial offense of the Maulers. While the Panthers might have the best defense in the USFL, their offense is bad enough to where even a couple of scores from Philadelphia could make it hard for Jeff Fisher’s team to keep up.
