New York and Philadelphia have had a rivalry across a number of sports over the years. That rivalry will be renewed in Week 3 of the USFL, as the New Jersey Generals and Philadelphia Stars do battle in Birmingham. In our USFL predictions for this week, we look at Generals vs Stars in a game that is not quite Giants vs Eagles, but is as close as it gets in the spring.

Generals vs Stars Betting Pick
This game will be played at Protective Stadium at 8:00 PM ET on Sunday, May 1, 2022.
Why Bet The Stars:
✅ These two teams are virtually dead even in point differential this season, with the Stars having a superior offense and the Generals boasting a better defense thus far. Unfortunately for the Generals, their passing game has not been up to snuff so far, while Philly has moved the ball through the air effectively. That will be the biggest difference in this game in the favor of the Stars.
✅ The Stars have been great at setting themselves up with good field position this season. They lead the USFL in kick return yardage, averaging just over 31 yards per kick return so far this season. If they can keep that going, the Stars should be able to win the field position battle against a conservative Generals offense.

✅ New Jersey’s lone win on the season came against the worst offensive team in the league in the Michigan Panthers. While both teams are 1-1 on the season, the Generals have the least impressive win it is possible to pick up in the league thus far. Philadelphia, meanwhile, has played two respectable opponents and should improve to 2-1 here.
New Jersey Generals
The New Jersey Generals got their first win in the relaunch of the USFL in Week 2, when they beat the Michigan Panthers. It was a defensive struggle throughout, with the Generals scoring just 10 points in their victory. This week, more scoring will be required to beat a more potent offensive team in the Stars.
The question for the Generals so far this season is whether their passing game can produce enough to make them an offensive threat. New Jersey leads the league in rushing yardage per game, but have struggled to convert in passing situations. If that does not change in Week 3, New Jersey could easily fall to 1-2 on the year.
Philadelphia Stars
Philadelphia got its first win in the USFL last week as well, beating the Pittsburgh Maulers in a high-scoring affair. The Stars moved the ball very effectively through the air in that game, and are developing a habit of being effective with their passing game. But it will be the run defense of the Stars that is tested this week.
So far this season, Philadelphia has the third worst run defense in the league, giving up 147 yards per game on the ground. But they should be able to sell out against the run against a Generals offense that has had no shortage of issues moving the ball through the air through their first two weeks.
