Monday Night Football gives us the 1-4 New York Jets hosting the 6-0 New England Patriots in an AFC East rivalry. These two have already met once this season when the Patriots knocked off the Jets 30-14 in Week 3. Monday will be the 122nd meeting between these two with the Patriots absolutely dominating the series since 2000. Since that year the Pats have won 30 of the 41 meetings and it was this game back in 2001 that saw Drew Bledsoe get hurt and Tom Brady come in for the first time.
Below are my two best bets for the Monday night football action between the New England Patriots and New York Jets. All lines are from FanDuel Sportsbook
New England Patriots (-9.5) at New York Jets: O/U 43.5 points (-110/-110)
The New England Patriots continued their early season onslaught with a 35-14 win over the New York Giants on Thursday Night Football. The Patriots schedule to start this season has been incredibly easy as they have wins over the Steelers, Dolphins, Jets, Redskins and Giants. The only real win so far this season was a 16-10 win in Buffalo in Week 4. This Pats defense has been incredible through six weeks as they are allowing just 260.8 yards per game and are giving up just 8.0 points per game through six weeks. New England is 4-2 ATA and the under has hit in four of six games.
The New York Jets got starting QB Sam Darnold back last week and saw themselves collecting their first win of the season in a 24-22 home win over the Dallas Cowboys. The Jets offense was anemic the first four weeks of the season, but they were able to put up almost 400 points and score a season high 24 points last week. The Jets are averaging just 220.0 yards per game and just 12.6 points per game, but both those totals should go up with Darnold back under center. New York is 2-3 ATS and the under has hit in three of five games this season.
Series History: The New England Patriots lead the all-time series 66-54-1 after coming away with a 30-14 win in Week 3. The Patriots are currently on a seven game winning streak in this series.
Game Prediction: I like the Jets to cover the spread in this one, so back the Jets at +9.5.
New York Jets over 16.5 points (-112)
The Jets have only gone over 16.5 points once this season, but they also have had Luke Faulk under center for 2.5 of those games. Coming off being out for three games with Mono QB Sam Darnold had this Jets offense looking a little more respectable last week. I don’t see the Jets putting up 30 points on this great Pats defense, but two TDs and FG seems about right. Back the New York Jets over 16.5 points Monday night.
YTD NFL Results: 19-18
