An interesting AFC vs NFC battle is on the schedule Week 15 as the 9-4 Minnesota Vikings travel to Los Angeles to take on the 5-8 Chargers. Minnesota is right in the thick of the NFC playoff race, while the Chargers are looking to gain momentum into the offseason.
Minnesota is right in the thick of the NFC bye race as they trail the Green Bay Packers by just one game in the NFC North. The Packers currently occupy the #2 seed in the NFC and the Vikings currently own the final Wild Card spot.
The Chargers enter Week 15 in the cellar of the AFC West and are all but eliminated from the playoffs. In the AFC, Los Angeles is the 12th seed, three games back of the second Wild Card spot. If the season ended today Los Angeles would have the 10th pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. The Vikings are also one game behind the Seattle Seahawks for the #5 seed, but also lost the head-to-head against the Seahawks.
Below is my best bet for the Minnesota Vikings at the Los Angeles Chargers. All lines are from FanDuel Sportsbook
Minnesota Vikings (-2.5) at Los Angeles Chargers: O/U 44.5 points (-110/-110)
The Minnesota Vikings played the lowly Detroit Lions and came away with a lackluster 20-7 home win last week. Minnesota led 17-0 at the half and both teams slept walk to the finish line in the second half. The Vikings have now won three of their last four games and remain right on the tails of the Green Bay Packers in the NFC North, who they play next week. Minnesota is 3-4 on the road this season with a notable win over Dallas and notable losses to Green Bay and Kansas City. The Vikings are 7-6 against the spread and the over has hit in seven on their 13 games this season.
The Chargers ended their three game losing streak with a 45-10 rout in Jacksonville last week. Los Angeles was able to rest their starters in the fourth quarter of this one as the Chargers dominated from the opening kickoff. The Chargers continue to be one of the most confusing teams in the NFL as all eight of their losses have been by single digits and most have come in a painful way for the fans. Los Angeles is 2-4 at home this season with wins over Indy and Green Bay, but losses to Denver and Kansas City. The Chargers are 4-8-1 against the spread and the under has hit in eight of their 13 games this season.
Series History: Minnesota won the most recent meeting between these two and ties the series up at 6-6.
Prediction: I am backing Minnesota -2.5 in this one.
