Why Bet The Dolphins
✅ The Dolphins defense is returning to 2020 form. They had a rough go of it earlier in the season, but things seem to be aligning for a late season push. The biggest problem for the defense as a whole early in the season was the offensive ineptitude. In the games Jacoby Brissett was forced to start, the defense simply was forced to spend too much time on the field. The offense could not stay on the field, and the team was getting crushed in time of possession. Now that those ails have been fixed, the results have been far better. In more difficult matchups than the one they face on Sunday, the defense has allowed just 9.5 points per game over the last two weeks, both wins. Now they face a Joe Flacco lead Jets team, which is the best any defense can hope for.
✅ It is now inarguable that the Dolphins offense takes a huge step forward when Tua Tagovailoa is healthy. He was available only for emergency situations last week against the Ravens. When Brissett got injured, Tagovailoa came in and essentially saved the day. The Dolphins posted just six points in the first half, but had more juice when Tagovailoa took over in the middle of the third quarter. The quarterbacks had nearly identical yardage output. Tagovailoa gathered 158 yards on 13 attempts. Brissett’s 156 yards came on 23 attempts.
The Jets Defense Has Fallen Apart
✅ The Jets certainly have real problems on the offensive side of the ball. The sad fact for them is those issues are overshadowed by the ones on defense. This defense is now dead last in the league in yards per play allowed. The yardage allowed is translating completely to the scoreboard. This team is allowing 43.8 points per game over the last four. The “good” game in that span saw them allow 31 points. It was at least 45 in all of the other three. It does not have to be just the last four games. The last time they held an opponent under 24 points was all the way back in Week 1. This defensive unit will continue to allow more points than the offense can keep up with, particularly with Joe Flacco under center.
