An AFC battle that could have a big impact on the final playoff standings is scheduled for Week 14 as the Kansas City Chiefs travel to Foxboro to take on the New England Patriots. A win by Kansas City would see them inch one step closer to a first round bye.
Kansas City enters Sunday with an 8-4 record and currently occupy the fourth seed in the AFC. The Chiefs hold a two game lead, plus the head-to-head, over the Oakland Raiders in the AFC West and have all but wrapped up that division. Kansas City loses the head-to-head tiebreak to the Houston Texans, who currently occupy the three seed in the AFC, but do hold the head-to-head advantage over top seed Baltimore.
The New England Patriots enter play at 10-2 and no longer occupy the top seed in the AFC. With their loss last weekend the Baltimore Ravens overtook the Pats for the top seed in the conference. The Pats hold just a one game lead, plus the head-to-head, over Buffalo in the AFC East.
Below is my best bet for the Kansas City Chiefs at the New England Patriots. All lines are from FanDuel Sportsbook
Kansas City Chiefs at New England Patriots (-3): O/U 48.5 points (-120/+100)
The Kansas City Chiefs extended their winning streak to two games, and gave them a big advantage in the AFC West, with a 40-9 win over the Oakland Raiders. This was a total butt-kicking by the Chiefs as they took a 31-0 lead into the fourth quarter last weekend. The Chiefs are 4-1 on the road this season with no notable wins and their only loss coming at Tennessee a few weeks back. Kansas City is 7-5 against the spread and the over has hit in seven of their 12 games this season.
The New England Patriots went into Houston Sunday night and left with a 28-22 loss in a score line that was way closer than the actual game was. Houston was leading this one 28-9 until New England scored two late touchdowns with under four minutes left. The Patriots have now had four consecutive games where they have not looked that great which could be troublesome as they welcome a Chiefs team that looks like it might be hitting their stride. The Pats are a perfect 5-0 at home against five pretty bad teams. New England is7-5 against the spread and the under has hit in eight of their 12 games this season.
Series History: The Patriots have won two straight meetings, but it is Kansas City who leads the all-time series 18-16-3.
NFL Pick: I like Kansas City to go into New England and leave with a win, so I am backing the Chiefs +3 Sunday.
YTD NFL Results: 50-41
