One of the more interesting matchups this NFL Wild Card weekend is the Packers vs Cowboys matchup from Arlington on Sunday afternoon. Dallas is favored by more than a touchdown coming into this game, as the Packers enter this contest as the seventh-seed in the NFC. But rather than looking at a side in this battle of historically successful NFC teams, we have our eye on the total instead.
Specifically, we expect this game to go under the total of 50.5 points at AT&T Stadium. Dallas does have the number-one scoring offense in the NFL coming into this game, averaging 29.9 points per game. But a little context is required there, as they averaged 40.5 points per game in seven games against the Giants, Commanders, Panthers, Patriots, and Seahawks, who all missed the playoffs this year.
Meanwhile, the offense of the Green Bay Packers could really struggle in this Packers vs Cowboys contest on Sunday. This is the first playoff start of Jordan Love’s young NFL career and it comes against a Cowboys defense that ranks fifth in points allowed on the season at 18.5 points per game. Love will gain some valuable experience in this matchup, but that will not necessarily translate to points on the scoreboard.
There is also the possibility that Dak Prescott’s playoff demons resurface to help this NFC Wild Card contest stay under what is a very high total. Prescott and the Cowboys have struggled time and time again in the postseason, with Prescott’s proclivity toward turning the ball over being a huge reason why. Even if Prescott did have an MVP caliber season for most of this year, you simply cannot rule out him reverting back to his old self in the playoffs to help this game to stay under when all is said and done on Sunday.
