The NFC Championship Game is set for Sunday January 19, 2020 as the second seed Green Bay Packers travel to Northern California to take on the top seed San Francisco 49ers. These two teams have a rich history and this will be the eighth playoff meeting, and 69th overall meeting, between the two. They have not met in the playoffs since 1996, but Green Bay leads the playoff head-to-head 4-3.
San Francisco is preparing for the 16th Conference Championship Game and first since the 2013 playoffs. From 2011-2013 the 49ers advanced to three straight Conference Championship Games, but were only able to win two of those. Overall, the 49ers are just 6-9 in Conference Championship Games, but when they get past this game they are 5-1 in the Super Bowl.
The Green Bay Packers advanced to their 10th Conference Championship Game with a win last week over Seattle. This will be the Packers first Conference Championship appearance since the 2016 playoffs and will be looking to win their first Conference Championship since winning the Super Bowl in 2010. The Packers are a solid 5-4 in the Conference Championship and when they get to the Super Bowl they win often as they are 4-1 all-time.
Below is my best bet for the NFC Championship Game between the Green Bay Packers and the San Francisco 49ers. All lines are from FanDuel Sportsbook
Green Bay Packers at San Francisco 49ers (-7): O/U 45.5 points (-110/-110)
The Green Bay Packers used a 21-3 halftime lead, and withheld a typical Seattle second half rally, to come away with a 28-23 win in the Divisional Round. Davante Adams, 160 receiving yards and two touchdowns, and Aaron Jones, 62 rushing yards and two touchdowns, led the Packers past Russell Wilson and Tyler Lockett. The Packers went 6-2 away from home this season with notable wins in Kansas City and Minnesota, but did have that 37-8 blowout loss in San Francisco. Green Bay is 11-6 against the spread and the under has hit in 10 of their 17 games this season.
San Francisco did what they did best all season, run the ball and play tough defense, to come away with the easy 27-10 win over the Minnesota Vikings last weekend. The 49ers defense forced two turnovers and the rushing attack gained 186 yards to lead the 49ers last Saturday. Kyle Shannahan and his crew are now 7-2 at home this season with a big win over Green Bay and losses to Seattle and Atlanta. San Francisco is 10-6-1 against the spread and both the over and under hit in eight of their games this season.
Series History: San Francisco blew Green Bay out earlier this season, winning 37-8 at home, but Green Bay leads the all-time series 36-31-1.
NFL Prediction: This San Francisco team is really impressive and I like them to get the Super Bowl with a two score win. Back San Francisco -7 in the NFC Championship Game.
