This game will be played at US Bank Stadium at 1:00 PM ET on Sunday, September 25, 2022.
Why Bet The Vikings:
✅ The line movement in this game is a bit of an overreaction to the Vikings’ Monday Night Football loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Minnesota was favored by 7.5 points when this line opened up after Sunday’s Week 2 action, and came down a point and a half after the Vikings got blown out by the Philadelphia Eagles. We will gladly take the Vikings at a discount at home after that game on the road.
✅ It is worth keeping in mind that the Detroit Lions have not played a road game yet this season. They have gone 2-0 against the spread so far this year, but both of those games were at home against the Eagles and Commanders. Going on the road for the first time, where the Lions went 0-8-1 last year, we should see the Lions come back down to Earth somewhat in Week 3.
✅ Both the Vikings and Lions have shared a common opponent already this season, with both teams playing the Eagles. While Detroit’s offense had more success in their game with Philadelphia than the Vikings did, the Minnesota defense had a better outing than that of Detroit. Expect the defense of the Vikings to win out here, as they have allowed just 15.5 points per game even after struggling against the Eagles.
Detroit Lions
Going into this Lions vs Vikings matchup, the Detroit Lions are carrying a good bit of momentum with them after a respectable start to the season. Detroit split their first two games of the year at home, losing to the Eagles before beating the Commanders. In both games, the offense of the Lions was potent, but it will be the defense of the Lions that is tested in the team’s first road game in Week 3.
Detroit has allowed the second most points in the league this season through two weeks, allowing 32.5 points per game. Against a Vikings team that has weapons like Adam Thielen and Justin Jefferson, Detroit will be in danger of giving up another big number here unless they can put pressure on Kirk Cousins early and often.
Minnesota Vikings
The Minnesota Vikings laid a complete egg in Week 2 of the NFL season, getting crushed on Monday Night Football by the Philadelphia Eagles. Minnesota scored just seven points in that game, with Kirk Cousins throwing three interceptions to keep the Vikings from any hopes of a comeback. This week, the Vikings will look to bounce back and improve to 2-0 at home on the year against their division rivals from Detroit.
Stopping the run is going to be huge for the Vikings this week, as the Lions have been very effective at moving the ball on the ground through two weeks. Detroit has had two of the top-10 rushing performances by NFL teams this season after Week 2, with D’Andre Swift and the rest of the Lions rushing attack setting up their offense nicely. If the Vikings can prevent them from doing so here, and put the game in Jared Goff’s hands, Minnesota could get back into the win column in Week 3.
