This game will be played at Bank of America Stadium at 1:00 PM ET on Sunday, September 11, 2022.
Why Bet The Browns:
✅ The main story of this game is that it puts Baker Mayfield up against his old team. Mayfield was ousted from Cleveland for a lack of consistency and effectiveness during his time there. If you combine those flaws with the fact that he is absolutely going to press too hard to try and get one over on his old team, the Browns should be able to rack up stops against Mayfield and generate some turnovers in the process.
✅ The Cleveland Browns defense was stellar last season and should be great against Mayfield here as well. They ranked second in the NFL in yards per play against and yards per pass attempt allowed. Their physicality up front will force the Panthers to throw short more than they would like, which the Browns will be able to clamp down on as this game wears on.

✅ There is a lot of concern about Jacoby Brissett starting at quarterback while Deshaun Watson is suspended. But the Browns’ running game is the focal point of their offense, and should help them to win this contest. The Browns were tied with the Indianapolis Colts for the most yards per carry in the NFL at 5.1 ypc last season. They will use Nick Chubb and company to gain chunk yardage on the ground and win the time of possession battle en route to an outright win on the road.
Cleveland Browns
This game is set to be an awkward one for the Cleveland Browns, as they take on their old starting quarterback Baker Mayfield and the Carolina Panthers. Cleveland will look to send Myles Garrett and the rest of their swarming defense at Mayfield throughout this game, and will look to force some of the turnovers that Mayfield provided when he was their quarterback.
While the focus of this game will be how the Browns handle Mayfield, the real key for the Browns will be keeping Christian McCaffrey from going off. McCaffrey is one of the best backs in the NFL at hurting teams both through the air and on the ground. But if Cleveland can stop him on early downs, they will force Mayfield to beat them vertically, which would give the Browns a huge advantage.
Carolina Panthers
The Carolina Panthers are entering a huge season, as this season could be a referendum on whether or not Matt Rhule continues in Carolina. With Sam Darnold getting injured in the preseason, Baker Mayfield is locked into the starting quarterback job. Whether or not that is a good thing for the Panthers remains to be seen as this season gets started.
Above all else, the key for the Panthers in this game is going to be avoiding turnovers from Mayfield. He threw 13 interceptions last year, putting him in the bottom half of the league in that category. If Mayfield cannot avoid turning it over here, the Browns will pounce on sudden change situations with their running game and roll over the Panthers here.
