Head to Head
Teams Last 10
This game will be played at Ford Field at 1:00 PM ET on Sunday, September 11, 2022.
Why Bet The Lions:
✅ Last season, the Philadelphia Eagles were not nearly as good defensively as they appeared. Their DVOA on defense ranked 25th in the NFL, despite finishing in the top-10 in yards per play against in all phases. Against a Lions team entering its second season under the Dan Campbell and Jared Goff duo, the Eagles’ defensive issues will come to light and allow the Lions to hang around in this game.
✅ It is hard not to like what the Detroit Lions are building under Campbell. Campbell has instilled a toughness that did not exist in the Lions previously, which will help in games like this one. About 10 months after their last meeting with the Eagles, this game is going to be a great chance to see how much the Lions have grown.

✅ From a simple line reading perspective, this line has to stick out as fishy to anyone considering betting the Eagles. They beat the Lions 44-6 in Detroit last season, yet they are only favored by four points after being favored by three points in last year’s blowout win. The Lions should be much more competitive this time around, as the line has barely budged despite that result.
Philadelphia Eagles
Last season, the Philadelphia Eagles broke through and made the playoffs with Jalen Hurts at quarterback, falling in the Wild Card round to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After going 9-8 in the 2021 regular season, the question for the Eagles is whether they will take a leap forward in 2022. Beating the Lions on the road would be a good start, but that may not be as easy a task as many expect it to be.
This game will be the first for A.J. Brown in an Eagles uniform after joining the team from the Tennessee Titans. Brown is expected to add some physicality to the receiving corps of the Eagles. But outside of Brown and Devonta Smith, there are some serious concerns about the receiving depth for this Eagles team, along with the group of running backs they bring into the season. A lack of skill position talent could really derail the Eagles in this game and this season as a whole.
Detroit Lions
The Detroit Lions went 3-13-1 last season, but there was a lot to like about them in spite of their dismal record. In spite of a catastrophically injured offensive line, the Lions were a top-10 team in yards per carry, and managed to be a middle of the pack team in terms of turnovers. Heading into year two with Jared Goff at quarterback, the Lions will hope that an offensive line that has recovered from a health standpoint can help them achieve some better results.
For the Lions, the question going into this game is how they can slow down Jalen Hurts. Detroit was competitive against Lamar Jackson and the Ravens last season, proving that they are capable of slowing down dual threat quarterbacks. But there is a huge difference between capability and execution, and the Lions need to bridge that gap to hang with the Eagles to start their season.
