Offseason Transactions
Key Additions: Rashaad Penny, Greedy Williams, Marcus Mariota, Jalen Carter, Nolan Smith
Key Departures: CJ Gardner-Johnson, Miles Sanders
The Eagles did a fine job of not bleeding talent after a Super Bowl loss, which was commendable. They replaced their losses at key positions either through free agency or the draft, where Philly got a couple of studs out of Georgia to help them come back strong this year. Losing Miles Sanders won’t hurt that badly, especially as Jalen Hurts continues to make progress at the quarterback position.
Philadelphia Eagles Offensive Stats
2022 (Rank) | 2021 (Rank) | |
---|---|---|
Yards Per Play | 5.8 (6th) | 5.7 (T-10th) |
Yards Per Rush Attempt | 4.6 (T-11th) | 5.0 (T-3rd) |
Yards Per Pass Attempt | 7.9 (T-2nd) | 7.2 (14th) |
Points Per Game | 28.1 (3rd) | 25.5 (12th) |
Turnovers | 19 (T-5th) | 16 (5th) |
The Eagles were not only strong statistically on offense last year, they were just plain fun to watch. Jalen Hurts was incredible, both through the air and on the ground, and his receiving corps was excellent. This year, expect the Eagles to once again score a ton of points, as they have a quarterback that can beat you in a number of different ways.
Philadelphia Eagles Defensive Stats
2022 (Rank) | 2021 (Rank) | |
---|---|---|
Yards Per Play Allowed | 4.8 (T-1st) | 5.2 (T-6th) |
Yards Per Rush Attempt Allowed | 4.7 (T-24th) | 4.0 (7th) |
Yards Per Pass Attempt Allowed | 5.5 (1st) | 6.4 (T-9th) |
Points Per Game Allowed | 20.2 (T-7th) | 23.1 (T-18th) |
Takeaways | 27 (T-4th) | 16 (T-26th) |
As if their offense wasn’t good enough, the Eagles were also a powerhouse on the defensive side of the ball in 2022. They ranked first in the NFL in yards per play and yards per pass attempt allowed. This year, they could be just as good, as they will continue to win the line of scrimmage, and they retained most of their secondary pieces.
Positives & Negatives
There are virtually all positives when it comes to this Eagles team. They might be the best team in the NFC on both sides of the ball, or at least right there with the San Francisco 49ers on defense. And the fact that Jalen Hurts could get even better as he gains more experience in the league should be terrifying for Eagles opponents this season.
If there is a negative against the Eagles, it is the fact that they had such a great 2022 season and still fell short of winning the Super Bowl. But if they can avoid an immediate Super Bowl hangover, they should be right back in contention with a chance to win it all again this year.
2023 Philadelphia Eagles Win Total Prediction: Over 11.5 Wins
Our season win total projections have the Eagles winning 13 games this year to follow up on last season’s breakthrough campaign. Barring any injuries to Hurts or AJ Brown, this Eagles team should continue to win in the trenches and that will keep them from sustaining too many losses heading into the playoffs. We will take the over for the Eagles on the season win total front, as they could get a first round bye as the NFC’s top seed once again.
