Head to Head
Teams Last 10
This game will be played at Paycor Stadium at 1:00 PM ET on Sunday, September 11, 2022.
Why Bet The Steelers:
✅ The Bengals made it to the Super Bowl last season, but that was not an accurate reflection of their body of work as a whole last season. They were a 10-7 team before making their miraculous run through the playoffs. Here, they will look more like the team that we saw in the regular season than the one we saw in the playoffs, and the Steelers should keep this contest relatively close.
✅ As strange as it sounds, the Pittsburgh Steelers are set to upgrade at the quarterback position with either Mitchell Trubisky or Kenny Pickett under center. Ben Roethlisberger was beyond washed up by the time his last season in Pittsburgh came and went. Public perception will be that the Steelers are getting worse at quarterback this year, but that is simply not the case.

✅ From a game script perspective, the goal for the Steelers this season is going to be to feed Najee Harris early and often. Doing so will alleviate the pressure on their new crop of quarterbacks. More importantly for this game, it will allow Pittsburgh to chew up the clock and reduce the number of possessions in the game. That will help the Steelers stay within a touchdown in this AFC North matchup.
Pittsburgh Steelers
For the Pittsburgh Steelers, Week 1 of this season will look a lot different than it has in seasons past. Ben Roethlisberger is gone, and some combination of Mitchell Trubisky and Kenny Pickett will take over the quarterbacking duties. Pittsburgh will be tested immediately in 2022, as they face the defending AFC champions in the Cincinnati Bengals this week.
For the Steelers, the big question for this game will be how their quarterback play compares to the end of the Roethlisberger era. But the performance of their defense will also be scrutinized off the bat this year. Pittsburgh added Myles Jack and Larry Ogunjobi to bolster the first two levels of their defense, but their secondary will need to step up against a Bengals team that lit opponents up through the air in 2021.
Cincinnati Bengals
Last season could not have possibly went any better for the Cincinnati Bengals, as they ran through the AFC playoffs and made it to the Super Bowl. While the Bengals fell short in the Super Bowl, they would have to be happy with the way they played last year, given that expectations were low for them going into the 2021 campaign. Now, the Bengals will look to prove that their success last season was no fluke as they open the season with a division game at home.
In Week 1, the pass protection for the Bengals will be tested in a big way against the Steelers. Pittsburgh’s T.J. Watt tied the single-season sack record last year for the Steelers, and he will be sure to chase after Joe Burrow early and often here. If the pass blocking for the Bengals cannot hold up in this game, the Bengals could see an underwhelming start to their AFC title defense unfold.
