Head to Head
Teams Last 10
This game will be played at Mercedes-Benz Stadium at 1:00 PM ET on Sunday, September 11, 2022.
Why Bet The Saints:
✅ There are going to be some growing pains for the Atlanta Falcons in the passing game that will hold them back early in the season. Marcus Mariota takes over as quarterback, while their wide receiver group is led by rookie Drake London. Against a stout Saints defense, rapport building will not go well for the Falcons in Week 1.
✅ New Orleans has won seven of their last nine meetings with the Falcons dating back to the 2017 season. With Jameis Winston and Michael Thomas set to return for the Saints here, New Orleans should be much more potent on offense than they were for the second half of last season. Expect the Saints to start this season with a road win and to cover the number in the process.

✅ Atlanta had a 6-10-1 record against the spread last season, and had one of the worst point differentials in the league at -146. By the end of this season, we should see some strides in the right direction from the Falcons. But they are going to need time to adjust to all of the changes they have made, and they will look just as bad as they did at the end of last season here.
New Orleans Saints
Heading into the 2022 NFL season, the expectations for the New Orleans Saints are something of a mixed bag. Their season win total sits at 8.5 games heading into the upcoming season, though they have Jameis Winston back after losing him to injury in 2021. Here, they look to start off on the right foot against a Falcons team they are projected to finish ahead of in the NFC South this year.
Something to keep an eye on for the Saints in this season opener will be their pass defense. New Orleans lost Malcolm Jenkins and Marcus Williams in their secondary, but added Tyrann Mathieu. It will be interesting to see how the Saints defend the pass right off the bat this season, especially against a Falcons passing attack that has undergone so many changes in the offseason.
Atlanta Falcons
Going into Saints vs Falcons on Sunday, the Falcons are set to begin less of a rebuilding year and more of a year where they are throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks. New quarterback Marcus Mariota will get another chance to start in the NFL, while Atlanta is set to look very different at the skill positions around him. Atlanta will look to get off to a fast start in the NFC South with a win here, but how quickly they can get everyone on the same page remains to be seen.
Also remaining to be seen is how well Mariota can avoid injury now that he is tasked with being a starter again. He threw just 30 passes over the last two seasons combined as the backup to Derek Carr in Las Vegas. Not only will he need to avoid any health-related concerns in his first game back as an NFL starter, but he will need to adjust to a full game of full speed NFL action for the first time in a long time as well.
