This game will be played at Acrisure Stadium at 1:00 PM ET on Sunday, September 18, 2022.
Why Bet The Patriots:
✅ The Patriots have the type of run defense that can stifle the Steelers ground game in this contest. New England held the Miami Dolphins to just 65 rushing yards on 23 carries, for an average of 2.8 yards per carry. Against a Pittsburgh team that only had 75 yards on 22 carries for an average of 3.4 yards per attempt on the ground, the Patriots will clamp down on another running game expected to play well this season.
✅ If the Patriots are able to slow down Najee Harris and the running game of the Steelers, that puts a lot of pressure on Mitchell Trubisky to deliver against a quality Patriots defense. Trubisky averaged 5.1 yards per attempt in Week 1, which is simply not on par with most NFL starting quarterbacks today. The Patriots will force him to beat them, and that will not go well for Pittsburgh at all.

✅ Not to pile on Trubisky here, but he led an offense that went 4/15 on third down attempts in Week 1. That is going to be an ongoing problem for the Steelers this year, as Trubisky just is not at the level he needs to be in order for his team to consistently move the ball in clear passing situations. Expect a Bill Belichick coached team to take full advantage of that.
Pittsburgh Steelers
The Pittsburgh Steelers forced turnover after turnover against Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals. Even with those turnovers, the Steelers needed overtime and some good fortune in that extra period to beat the defending AFC champions on the road. This week, the Steelers head home, where they face another playoff team from last season in the Patriots.
For the Steelers, the question in this game beyond the play of Trubisky is going to be how they make up for the loss of T.J. Watt. The reigning Defensive Player of the Year is going to miss time due to a torn pectoral muscle. Without the anchor of their pass rush, the Steelers may have to dial up more blitzes to create pressure, which could leave receivers open on short and intermediate routes.
New England Patriots
Week 1 did not go well for the New England Patriots, as they were beaten handily by the Miami Dolphins at Hard Rock Stadium. But the Patriots have a chance to rebound in Week 2 against a Steelers team that just lost its best defender. With the Bills and Dolphins both winning in Week 1, this is not a must-win game but is an important one for a team in such a competitive division.
Mac Jones finished Week 1 in Miami with a QBR of 9.7, which was the third worst QBR among quarterbacks in the first week of the season. He needs to be better, and should benefit from the loss of Watt on the Pittsburgh side as he looks to accomplish that.
