Head to Head
Teams Last 10
This game will be played at FedEx Field at 1:00 PM ET on Sunday, September 11, 2022.
Why Bet The Under:
✅ Both of these teams failed to break 20 points per game during the 2021 NFL season. The Jacksonville Jaguars finished dead last in scoring average last year, putting up 14.9 points per game. Washington, meanwhile, averaged 19.7 points per game to finish in a tie for 23rd in the NFL. Expect both offenses to continue to struggle in the opening game of this NFL season for both sides.
✅ The Washington Commanders brought in Carson Wentz to replace Taylor Heinicke as their starting quarterback. But that may not lead to an increase in scoring from Washington in 2022. Wentz threw more than two touchdown passes in just three games last season, despite being on a Colts team with a better offensive line and running game around him. He is not going to have a breakout game to start his Commanders career.

✅ Both of these teams regularly saw their games go under the total during the 2021 NFL season. The Jaguars went 5-12 on totals last season, while the Commanders went under in 10 of their 17 contests. These two offenses did not make enough improvements in the offseason to justify going in any direction but the under in this Week 1 contest.
Jacksonville Jaguars
Last season, the Jacksonville Jaguars finished with the worst record in the NFL and earned another number one overall draft pick. They used that draft pick on pass rusher Travon Walker, who they hope will help fix a defense that finished with the fifth most points per game allowed last season. Jacksonville will aim to prove they have improved on both sides of the ball against the Washington Commanders on the road in Week 1.
Along with the addition of Walker on defense through the NFL Draft, the Jaguars are expected to have Travis Etienne back at running back. Etienne missed last season due to injury, and his reunion on the field with Trevor Lawrence could make the Jaguars resemble a more professional quality offense in 2022. After being the only team in the NFL to score under 15 points per game last year, there is virtually nowhere to go but up for the Jags offensively.
Washington Commanders
The Washington Commanders were known as the Washington Football Team heading into Week 1 of last season. But a name change and a change at quarterback will have this team looking very different going into the 2022 campaign. Here, they will look to score a season opening victory at home against a Jaguars team that is once again expected to be among the worst in the NFL.
Last season, Wentz did a decent job of avoiding turnovers, throwing just seven interceptions during his lone season with the Colts. If he can continue to avoid turning the ball over, the Commanders could start this season off on the right foot as he looks to develop a relationship with his receivers in real game action for the first time.
