Jacksonville Jaguars Betting Preview
The Jacksonville Jaguars became one of the darlings of the NFL last season, making the playoffs as AFC South champions and winning a game in the postseason on top of that. This season, the Jaguars come in with high expectations, which is not very common territory for them. But the Jaguars certainly have the talent to repeat their performance from a season ago, and they could benefit from a period of great uncertainty in the AFC South.
Every team in the AFC South around the Jaguars drafted a quarterback in the most recent NFL Draft. Those massive changes for each franchise could clear the runway for Jacksonville to win their division and host at least one playoff game once again. Here, we break down the upcoming season for Jacksonville in our 2023 Jacksonville Jaguars season preview and we make our pick for the Jags in the season win total market.

Jacksonville Jaguars Picks, Predictions & Betting News
Key Additions: No key additions
Key Departures: Jawaan Taylor
The Jaguars were not in any position to make any major additions in the offseason. Instead, they prioritized keeping some of their key targets for Trevor Lawrence in Jacksonville. They did just that by putting the franchise tag on Evan Engram and redoing the contracts for wide receivers Zay Jones and Christian Kirk. That will help the Jaguars offense from falling off of a cliff in 2023, which is good enough for this team that appears to be on the rise as is.
Jacksonville Jaguars Offensive Stats
|2022 (Rank)||2021 (Rank)|
|Yards Per Play||5.7 (T-7th)||5.0 (T-24th)|
|Yards Per Rush Attempt||4.9 (T-4th)||4.5 (T-8th)|
|Yards Per Pass Attempt||6.8 (T-21st)||6.1 (29th)|
|Points Per Game||23.8 (10th)||14.9 (32nd)|
|Turnovers||22 (T-14th)||29 (T-29th)|
The Jacksonville Jaguars have become a legitimately fun offense to watch. The duo of Trevor Lawrence and Travis Etienne Jr. have formed a nice nucleus in Duval County, while pass catchers like Zay Jones and Evan Engram have been more than serviceable. Lawrence still has some room for improvement when it comes to efficiency, but that should come with experience.

Jacksonville’s defense struggled at times against top-tier offenses last season, but they were largely solid. Their pass defense will need to get better in order to really contend with the top teams in the league like Kansas City and Buffalo. But there is non part of the Jaguars defense that stands out as legitimately bad, which gives them a chance in any game they take part in.
Positives & Negatives
The biggest positive surrounding the Jaguars going into 2023 is the fact that they have become so dynamic offensively. Outside of Lawrence and Etienne, the Jags have managed to take players who were overlooked elsewhere and have turned them into pieces of a winning offense. Though they will have to perform in the face of higher expectations this season, there is cause for legitimate optimism again in Jacksonville going into 2023.
While the Jaguars offense is an overall positive heading into this season, the biggest negative for this group is Lawrence’s lack of consistency at times. His playoff game against the Chargers is a great example of that, as he was horrible in the first half and brilliant in the second half of the Jaguars’ comeback victory in that contest. Jacksonville can’t afford such volatility from Lawrence if they want to improve on their play from last year.
2023 Jacksonville Jaguars Win Total Prediction: Over 9.5 Wins
The division the Jaguars play in could give them a full six wins in 2023. With rookie quarterbacks Anthony Richardson, CJ Stroud, and Will Levis all likely to see the field at some point this year, the Jaguars simply having a functional team in place should help them cruise to a division title. They should be able to rack up 10 wins or more along the way, so we will play their season win total over.
