The college basketball betting action goes on Tuesday night with the Atlantic 10 showdown at John M. Belk Arena in Davidson, so I’ve prepared the best betting pick and odds for the Saint Joseph’s Hawks vs. Davidson Wildcats clash.
According to DraftKings Sportsbook, the hosts are double-digit favorites, but the Wildcats have failed to cover in four of their previous five encounters with the Hawks. The visitors have just tallied their first victory of the season and will try to stay on the winning path.
The Hawks barely outlasted Albany to snap a horrible losing streak
After dropping their first eight games of the season, the Saint Joseph’s Hawks (1-8; 0-3 Conf.) finally found a way to win this past Saturday. They beat the Albany Great Danes 67-64 as 8-point home favorites, failing to cover for the fourth time in their last five outings.
The Hawks are only 1-11 straight up and 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games dating back to the previous season. They are No. 240 in the latest NCAA NET Rankings and No. 187 in the KenPom rankings, scoring 102.3 points per 100 possessions (154th in the nation) and allowing 105.0 in a return (257th).
Senior guard Ryan Daly is sidelined with a thumb injury, and he averaged 17.2 points and 6.2 rebounds through five appearances this term. Junior forward Taylor Funs tallies 15.8 points and 5.9 boards per game, while freshman guard Jordan Hall adds 7.1 points, 5.0 boards, and 5.4 assists a night.
The Wildcats eye their sixth straight home win over Saint Joseph’s
The Davidson Wildcats (6-5; 2-2 Conf.) are coming off an 89-78 overtime defeat to Dayton this past Friday, tallying their second loss in the last three outings. The Wildcats’ defense fell apart in the last three minutes of overtime, so the Flyers finished the game with 56.9% shooting from the field and 44.0% from downtown.
Davidson was a 7-point fave for Friday’s clash, dropping to 3-2 ATS over its last five games overall. The Wildcats are now No. 92 in the NCAA NET Rankins and No. 73 in the KenPom rankings. They score 111.4 points per 100 possessions (32nd) and surrender 100.1 in a return (135th).
Senior guard Kellan Grady enjoys a wonderful season and tops the ‘Cats’ scoring chart with 17.3 points per game on 44.5% shooting from the field. Davidson takes 26.0 attempts from beyond the arc per game which are the 52nd-most in the country, while the Wildcats make 35.3% of those 3-pointers (113th).
[metabet_core_odds_compare query=”ncaab/davidson” size=”300×250″ site_id=”atsio” css=”float:right; margin-left:10px”]Saint Joseph’s:
- 3-10 ATS in the last 13 games overall
- 1-6 ATS in the last seven games against Atlantic 10
Davidson:
- 4-2 ATS in the last six games played in January
- 15-5 ATS in the last 20 home tilts played on Tuesday
The Winner Prediction
I expect the hosts to continue with their strong offensive performance and drop a bunch of baskets on the Hawks which should be enough for a comfortable win. The Hawks yielded 80-plus points in each but one game this season, and I don’t see them improving in this one.
Saint Joseph’s limited Albany to 64 points, but the Great Danes are 307th in the country in offensive efficiency. The Wildcats’ offense should be a key factor, so I’m going with the hosts to cover.
Pick: Take Davidson -12.5 at -110
The Total:
The over is 3-1 in the last four encounters between the Hawks and Wildcats, and I will stick with the betting trends. Also, the over is 3-1 in Davidson’s last four showings, and it is 10-3 in the Hawks’ previous 13 contests.
Although the Wildcats love to play at a very slow pace of 64.0 possessions per 40 minutes (350th), they will probably speed up things against the Hawks’ poor defense. Saint Joseph’s averages a whopping 74.2 possessions per 40 minutes (19th), and the visitors will try to take advantage of Davidson’s mediocre defense, too.
Pick: Go over 147.0 points at -110
