Butler Bulldogs
The Butler Bulldogs enter the 2023 Big East Tournament at 14-17 overall and 6-14 in the Big East. They have lost two games in a row coming into this contest, losing by double digits to Marquette and Xavier to close out their regular season. Here, the Bulldogs will look for what is essentially a road win to keep their season alive into Thursday.
To win this game, Butler has to be better on the defensive end than they were on the road against St. John’s earlier this season. The Bulldogs let the Red Storm shoot 52% from the field in their game in Queens back in January, and a similar number in this game would likely mean the end of Butler’s season.
St. John’s Red Storm
St. John’s also comes into this contest on a two-game losing streak, falling against UConn and Marquette to close out their regular season. They are 17-14 overall and 7-13 in conference play heading into this tournament. But they are playing at home in this event, and the Red Storm will look to use that to their advantage to advance here.
The Red Storm will also be looking to use Joel Soriano to their advantage to win this contest against Butler. Soriano has already had success against the Bulldogs this year, posting a double-double against them in January. The Fordham transfer will need to have another big game here if the Johnnies are going to move onto Thursday’s quarterfinals.
