AP Top 25: ACC, Big Ten receive five teams each in AP Top 25 Poll

For the third straight week, the Gonzaga Bulldogs sit atop the AP Top 25 poll. Although the No. 1 Bulldogs ended the college basketball regular season as the top team in the AP Top 25, they need to win the West Coast Conference tournament to hold that spot after Selection Sunday. Their Bulldogs continued to be the only team representing their conference. Therefore, they might not end up with the overall No. 1 seed anyway.

The ACC has five teams in the AP Top 25. Three of those teams remain in the top five and they are all in contention for a No. 1 seed. The Virginia Cavaliers were voted as the No. 2 team in the country. They are joined by the No. 3 North Carolina Tar Heels and No. 5 Duke Blue Devils. Most likely, only two of those teams will receive a No. 1 seed. Keep in mind, freshman phenom Zion Williamson is set to return for the Blue Devils in the ACC Tournament.

The No. 4 Kentucky Wildcats are the highest rated team in the SEC. They tied for second in conference play. The No. 9 LSU Tigers won the regular season title, while No. 8 Tennessee Volunteers lost their final game of the regular season to fall back into a second place tie.

The rest of the Top 10 consist of the Big 10 and Big 12. No. 6 Michigan State Spartans completed the sweep of the No. 10 Michigan Wolverines. Meanwhile, No. 7 Texas Tech Red Raiders tied for Big 12 title with No. 15 Kansas State Wildcats. Overall, the Big Ten has five teams in the AP Top 25.

After clinching the AAC regular season title, the No. 11 Houston Cougars moved up one spot. The No. 14 Nevada Wolf Pack earned a share of the MWC regular season title. The No. 18 Buffalo Bulls went out on a high note in the Mid-American finale. Meanwhile, No. 20 Wofford Terriers are in the middle of their SoCon tournament. They need one more win to solidify the automatic bid.
