Two of the more intriguing NFL teams this season will meet in Week 1 of the season, as the Los Angeles Chargers host the Miami Dolphins at SoFi Stadium. Both of these teams made the playoffs as Wild Card teams in 2022, but fell on the road in the Wild Card round. Here, we make our NFL predictions for Dolphins vs Chargers, as both teams look to get a win to start what they hope will be another playoff-caliber campaign.
Miami Dolphins
Last year’s Miami Dolphins went 9-8, despite quarterback Tua Tagovailoa missing significant amounts of time due to multiple head injuries. Tagovailoa will be back to start this season, and he will look to light up the scoreboard along with his dynamic receiving duo of Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. But he faces a stern test to open this season, as the Los Angeles Chargers have the kind of pass rush that could make things difficult on him.
While Miami is certainly a threat through the air, how they distribute their running back touches will be interesting in this season opening Dolphins vs Chargers contest. Jeff Wilson and De’Von Achane both have talent, but have not emerged as workhorses on an individual level just yet. Miami will need to figure out how best to use that duo in Mostert’s absence in order to win this one.
Los Angeles Chargers
Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers looked like they were heading to the Divisional round of the playoffs last season, as they took a huge lead into halftime against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Wild Card weekend. But they blew that lead and were dumped out of the playoffs at the first hurdle, an indignity they will look to rebound from starting with this Week 1 game against the Dolphins.
For the Chargers, the big question for this season will be whether they can do better against the run. The Bolts were a bottom-five team in terms of rushing yards allowed per game in 2022. Fortunately for the Chargers, the Dolphins may not be equipped to take advantage of that with Mostert’s injury, but just about anyone looked capable of running against the Chargers last year.
