NFL Week 1 is finally upon us and the wait for football Sundays is now over for bettors. A full slate of NFL games that includes some marquee matchups between Super Bowl hopefuls blessing football fans in what should be a fantastic opening weekend across the league.
The late afternoon slate on Sunday features a meeting between perennial contenders the Kansas City Chiefs and the electric Arizona Cardinals. A game with a key storyline of a battle of two of the sport’s most dynamic quarterbacks in Patrick Mahomes of the Chiefs and the recent mega contract signee Kyler Murray of the Cards.
With two electric offenses doing battle, there will be some interest in the player prop market as well as some fun Same Game Parlay opportunities for bettors looking to make the risk of a parlay in return for the potential juicy payout. Today’s preview looks at a handful of value wagers bettors could play either straight up, or in a Chiefs vs Cardinals parlay ticket for the big Sunday winnings haul.

Pick #1: Kansas City Chiefs moneyline
The first leg of the Chiefs vs Cardinals Same Game Parlay is an attempt at a chalk layup on the moneyline favorite with Kansas City. For good reason too, as the Chiefs enter the season expecting to once again finish amongst the final teams left in the Super Bowl hunt.
Head coach Andy Reid is back and is famous for his success when given time to prepare for an opponent. The Bye Week God himself is also fairly successful when it comes to Week 1, especially since leaving Philadelphia for the greener pastures of Kansas City. Reid is 8-1 in season openers as the head coach of the Chiefs, a trend you should believe in as Reid is arguably one of the greatest game planners in the history of the NFL when he is able to zero in on his opponent for an extended period of time.

Pick #2: Kyler Murray over 32.5 rushing yards
Leg #2 of this Chiefs vs Cardinals parlay backs the Cardinals newly minted quarterback to utilize his dual threat capabilities that earned him a fat, fat, fat contract in the offseason. Kyler Murray signed a five-year, $230 million extension to remain in Arizona and the pressure is now on for him to showcase why he is one of the richest players in the history of the game.
Showcasing that talent includes using his legs to breakout for explosive plays. Something Murray has to do on Sunday to keep pace with Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs electric attack. If the Cards are to keep pace with the Chiefs, they need at least one or two big gainers from Murray on the ground to get themselves into the redzone and put points on the scoreboard.
Murray’s 2021 game logs were a mixed bag as far as rushing yardage output goes. The quarterback rushed for 33 yards or more six times out of his 14 games at quarterback. However, the bulk of those big games on the ground came during the second half of last season following the team’s Week 12 bye. Pointing the direction in Murray continuing to use his legs to rack up yardage and put the Cardinals in good field position.

Pick #3: Travis Kelce over 76.5 receiving yards
With no more Tyreek Hill in Kansas City, fantasy owners and prop bettors should feel a lot more confident in tight end Travis Kelce receiving the targets he deserves as one of the best players in his position.
With Hill commanding a strong share of the targets, Kelce was a monster last season before tapering off closer to the end of the regular season. Now, with Kelce expected to be more of a focal point again as the definitive leader of the receiving attack, those numbers should return to the mammoth totals that made Kelce one of the biggest fantasy football weapons.
Last season, Kelce had four 100+ yard receiving days. Playing against an average Cardinals defense in a dome, it should be a big day for the Mahomes and Kelce connection and that makes Kelce’s receiving yards over a confident add to any Same Game Parlay ticket, including this Chiefs vs Cardinals parlay.

Chiefs vs Cardinals Preview
As mentioned, the Chiefs said goodbye to Tyreek Hill this offseason and brought in JuJu Smith-Schuster as his replacement in the wide receiving corps. Hill moved to the Miami Dolphins in a massive trade that gave the Chiefs five draft picks in return.
While the move to move on from Hill gives the Chiefs longterm flexibility, the question entering the season will be if losing Hill will eventually keep the team from getting back to the Super Bowl after falling short in the AFC Playoffs last season. Putting the pressure on names like Mahomes, Kelce, and JuJu to show the high powered attack in Kansas City isn’t leaving with Hill.
On the Cardinals side of things, the team added wide receiver Hollywood Brown to their receiving corps in the hopes of giving Murray an extra tool in the attacking arsenal to take the next step. Outside of that, the Cards made little splashes in the offseason, putting the pressure on head coach Kliff Kingsbury to make necessary adjustments in the team’s philosophy to get them into the playoffs in an NFC West that includes the defending Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams.
Kingsbury also has a stellar Week 1 track record, holding a 2-0-1 record since taking over in Arizona in 2019. That record will go up against Andy Reid’s stellar Week 1 coaching record in Kansas City and Patrick Mahomes perfect 4-0 record in season openers. Giving trend bettors something difficult to think about in a brain exploding proposition in which team has the Week 1 ‘edge’ in preparations.
