The 27th Alamo Bowl could be very entertaining as the #11 Utah Utes and the Texas Longhorns do battle in San Antonio. Texas is 2-1 all-time in the Alamo Bowl, while Utah is making their first appearance in this bowl.
Utah finished the 2019 regular season with an 11-2 overall record, a Pac-12 South title and a Pac-12 Championship Game appearance. The Utes are bowling for the sixth straight season and will look to do better than last year’s showing in the Holiday Bowl. Utah is 17-5 all-time in bowl games.
Texas finished 2019 with a disappointing 7-5 overall record and a 5-4 record in the Big 12. The Longhorns are bowling for the third straight season and will look to build on to their 29-24-2 overall record.
Below is my pick for the Alamo Bowl between the #11 Utah Utes and the Texas Longhorns. All lines are from the William Hill Sportsbook.
#11 Utah Utes (-7.5) vs Texas Longhorns: O/U 55 points (-110/-110)
Utah finished their regular season with a disappointing 37-15 loss in the Pac-12 Championship Game. A win would have seen the Utes makes the playoffs, but they could not overcome a 20-0 hole they dug themselves against Oregon. The Utes won eight of their final nine games this season and went 4-2 away from Salt Lake City this season. Utah is 8-4 against the spread and the under has hit in eight of their 12 games this season.
The Texas Longhorns finished their regular season with a nice 49-24 win over Texas Tech. Texas dug themselves a 14-0 first quarter hole, but scored 35 of the next 42 points to put this game on ice. UT ended the season winning just one of their final three games and went 1-3 away from Austin in 2019. Texas is 6-6 against the spread and the over has hit in seven of their 12 games this season.
Series History: These teams met one time, in 1982, and Texas came away with a 21-12 win.
ATS Pick: I like Texas +7.5 in this one.
