Week seven of the College Football season got started Wednesday night, with App State taking on Louisiana, and there are two more games Thursday night as we get closer to the best Saturday of the season thus far.
Thursday night gets underway with an ACC battle in Raleigh as the North Carolina State Wolfpack host the Syracuse Orange as both teams look for their first conference win on the season. The nightcap is the UL Monroe Warhawks traveling to Texas to take on the Texas State Bobcats.
Below are my best bets for the Thursday night College Football action. All lines are from the William Hill Sportsbook.
Syracuse at North Carolina State (-4.5): O/U 56 points scored (-105/-115)
The Syracuse Orange had high expectations going into 2019, but a 1-2 start to the season has them working uphill for the remainder of the 2019 season. The Orange opened the season with a 24-0 win at Liberty, but the next week got smoked at Maryland 63-20 and then followed that up with a 41-6 home loss to then #1 Clemson. Since those two losses Syracuse has gotten back on the board with a 52-33 win over Western Michigan and a 41-3 win over Holy Cross. ‘Cuse averages 250.2 passing yards per game (56th) and 135.6 rushing yards per game (92nd).
The North Carolina State Wolfpack started the season 2-0, but since then have gone just 2-1 and are looking for their first Power Five win. The Wolfpack opened the season with a 34-6 win over East Carolina and then beat Western Carolina 41-0 before losing at West Virginia 44-27. After the WVU loss the Wolfpack beak Ball State 34-23 and then fell at Florida State 31-13. NC State is top 50 in the nation averaging 183.6 rushing yards per game.
Series History: NC State leads the all-time series 10-2, but the Orange won last year’s meeting 51-41
Game Prediction: I think this is going to be a close contest, so take the points and Syracuse at +4.5.
Louisiana Monroe (-3.5) at Texas State: O/U 61 points scored (-110/-110)
UL Monroe is looking to go to 2-0 in the Sun Belt after opening up conference play with a 30-17 home win over South Alabama a few weeks back. ULM has had a tough schedule so far, with losses at Florida State, at Iowa State and a home loss to undefeated Memphis, but the Warhawks still have their eyes on a conference championship. Monroe is 27th in the nation averaging 220.2 rushing yards per game.
Texas State is also looking to go 2-0 in Sun Belt play after they too opened their conference schedule with a 37-34 home win over Georgia State a few weeks back. The Bobcats started the 2019 season 0-3 after losses at then #12 Texas A&M, at home vs Wyoming and at undefeated SMU, but have since won two straight after that win over Georgia State and a win over Nicholls State last week.
Series History: ULM leads the all-time series 11-4 and are currently on a three game win streak after winning 20-14 last season.
Game Prediction: Texas State averages under 20 points a game and I like ULM to take advantage of a weak defense. Take the road favorite Warhawks at -3.5.
YTD College Football Results: 12-11
