A key game in the Big-12 takes place Saturday in Ames as the #19 Texas Longhorns travel to face the Iowa State Cyclones. Texas is still right there in contention for the Big-12 Championship game and Iowa State is still working towards getting to a bowl game.
The Longhorns enter play at 6-3 overall, and 4-2 in the Big-12, and are just one came back of second place Oklahoma in the conference standings. Texas also losses the head-to-head against Oklahoma thanks to a 34-27 loss a few weeks back. UT will be bowling for the third straight season.
Iowa State still has some work to do to get to a bowl game as the Cyclones enter Saturday at 5-4 overall and 3-3 in the Big 12. Luckily for ISU they have Kansas at home next week, so they should get to six wins no matter what the result is this week. The Cyclones are looking to go bowling for the third straight season.
Below is my pick for the #19 Texas Longhorns at the Iowa State Cyclones. All lines are from the DraftKings Sportsbook.
#19 Texas Longhorns at Iowa State Longhorns (-7): O/U 66 points (-110/-110)
Texas was able to overcome a slow start last week against then #16 Kansas State and eventually came away with the 27-24 win. Kansas State got out to a quick 14-0 lead, but Texas was able to get back into it and a 26-yard field goal sealed the 27-24 victory. Saturday will be just third road game of the season for Texas, though they did play a neutral site game in Dallas, and will be just the second time they have played outside of the state of Texas. UT is 1-1 on the road and lost that neutral site game to Oklahoma. The Longhorns are 4-5 against the spread and the over has hit in six of their nine games this season.
Iowa State’s up and down season continued last week in Norman as the Cyclones game within one point of taking the then #9 Oklahoma Sooners to OT. Rather than playing for OT, ISU went for two, but ended up getting stuffed and fell 42-41. Iowa State will look for their first win over a ranked team this season after they fell to then #19 Iowa earlier this season and then suffered the loss to then #9 Oklahoma last week. The Cyclones are 6-3 against the spread and the over, and under, have both hit in four of their games this season.
Series History: Texas leads the all-time series 14-2 after winning the last three meetings between these two schools.
Game Prediction: Iowa State being seven point favorites does not make sense to me so I am all over Texas +7 in this one.
