The Legends Trophy is on the line Saturday as the #16 Notre Dame Fighting Irish travel to Palo Alto to take on the Stanford Cardinal.
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are looking to secure a top 15 finish in 2019 and just have the Stanford Cardinal, and a bowl game, standing in their way. Notre Dame is currently 9-2 on the season and a win Saturday will mark the third consecutive 10 win season for Brian Kelly and the Irish. The Fighting Irish will be bowling for the third consecutive season.
The Stanford Cardinal enter Saturday with a 4-7 record and will suffer their first losing season since 2008. A loss Saturday will see the Cardinal have their worst season since going 4-8 in 2007, which was Jim Harbaugh’s first season at the helm.
Below is my pick for the #16 Notre Dame Fighting Irish at the Stanford Cardinal. All lines are from the PointsBet Sportsbook.
#16 Notre Dame Fighting Irish (-16.5) at Stanford Cardinal: O/U 51 points (-110/-110)
Notre Dame extended their winning streak to four games with an easy 40-7 home win over Boston College last weekend. The Fighting Irish trailed midway through the second quarter, but then went on a 34-0 run to get the comfortable win. Notre Dame’s two losses this season both came on the road, to ranked teams, as they fell 23-17 to then #4 Georgia and they fell 45-14 to then #19 Michigan. The Fighting Irish are 2-2 on the road this season with their two wins coming at Duke and at Louisville. Notre Dame is 7-4 against the spread and the under has hit in six of their 11 games this season.
The Stanford Cardinal were officially eliminated from bowl contention with a 24-20 home loss to Cal last week. Stanford took a 20-17 lead with 2:23 remaining, but a touchdown one minute later gave Cal the 24-20 advantage. The Cardinal have now lost three games in a row to really derail their 2019 season. At home, Stanford is 3-3 overall and are 2-2 in Pac-12 play. Stanford is 3-8 against the spread and the over has hit in seven of their 11 games this season.
Series History: Notre Dame now leads the all-time series 19-13 after coming away with a 38-17 victory last season.
Football Pick: I like Notre Dame to win by two touchdowns, so I am backing Stanford +16.5.
