MAC Championship Pick & Preview: Miami (Ohio) vs Central Michigan 12/7/19

The 23rd MAC Championship game is set for Saturday as the Miami Ohio RedHawks take on the Central Michigan Chippewas at Ford Field.

Miami Ohio is making their fifth MAC Championship game and are looking to win their third title. The RedHawks most recent championship game appearance came in 2010 when they came away with a 26-21 win and championship. A win Saturday would see Miami Ohio win eight games for the first time since 2010.

Central Michigan will be playing in their fourth MAC championship game will look to maintain their perfect record in championship games. The Chippewas won the 2006, 2007 and 2009 MAC Championship games. A win Saturday would see Central Michigan have their first nine win season since 2009.

Below is my pick for the Miami Ohio RedHawks vs the Central Michigan Chippewas. All lines are from the William Hill Sportsbook.

Miami Ohio RedHawks vs Central Michigan Chippewas (-7): O/U 54 points (-110/-110)

Miami Ohio didn’t have much to play for, but they will still be disappointed with a 41-27 road loss to Ball State in their regular season finale. The RedHawks were up 27-14 at the half, but Ball State outscored Miami Ohio 27-0 in the second half to come away with their fifth win of the season. The RedHawks went 1-2 against MAC – West teams this season having come away with a win over Northern Illinois and losing to Western Michigan and Ball State. Miami (Ohio) is 5-7 against the spread and both the over and under has hit in six of their 12 games this season.

Central Michigan clinched a spot in the championship game with a dominant 49-7 win over the Toledo Rockets last week. The Chippewas jumped out to 28-0 lead and never looked back as they easily secured their spot in Detroit. CMU is 2-1 against MAC – East opponents this season with wins over Akron and Bowling Green and a loss to Buffalo. Central Michigan is 9-2-1 against the spread and the over has hit in nine of their 12 games this season.

Series History: Miami Ohio won the last two meetings between these two and now leads the all-time series 14-13-1.

Prediction: Playing in their home state, I like Central Michigan -7 Saturday.
