The Big 12 will be in the spotlight Saturday night as the Iowa State Cyclones travel to Norman to take on the #9 Oklahoma Sooners. The Cyclones have an outside chance of making the Big 12 championship, but will have to pull of the massive upset against Oklahoma this week. The Sooners are still alive in the College Football Playoff race, but will have to win out from here.
Iowa State are tied for 3rd place in the Big 12 and are just one game back of Oklahoma for that coveted second spot and a place in the Big 12 Championship game. The Cyclones need to win at least one of their final four games to go bowling for the third straight season. Oklahoma are ranked #9 in the first College Football Playoff teams and have five undefeated teams ahead of them and, more concerning, three other one loss teams to jump. Oklahoma do have two more ranked teams on the schedule, so if they handle their business the Sooners could still reach the playoffs. The Sooners will be bowling for the 21st consecutive season.
Below is my pick for Iowa State at #9 Oklahoma. All lines are from the William Hill Sportsbook.
Iowa State Cyclones at #9 Oklahoma Sooners (-14.5): O/U 67.5 points (-115/-105)
Iowa State is coming off a bye week, but the Cyclones cannot wait to get back on the field as the Cyclones fell 34-27 to Oklahoma State a few weeks back. The Cyclones were on a nice three game winning streak prior to that, but the loss to the Cowboys all but ended Iowa State’s chances of getting to the Big 12 Championship game. ISU has played just one ranked team this season and they fell 18-17 to rival, and then 18th ranked, Iowa. The Cyclones are 5-3 against the spread and the under has hit in four of their eight games this season.
#9 Oklahoma had an extra week to think about things as the Sooners had to simmer over their bye week after falling 48-41 at Kansas State a few weeks back. The Sooners were rolling all season, but traveling to Manhattan is never easy and the Wildcats took down another contender at home. Oklahoma still has an outside shot at making the College Football Playoffs, but they will have to win out and win big. The Sooners are 4-4 against the spread and under has hit in four of their eight games this season.
Series History: Oklahoma has absolutely dominated this series having an all-time series lead of 75-6-2. The Sooners won last season’s meeting 37-27 in Ames.
Game Prediction: Oklahoma bounces back in a big way this week and trounces the Cyclones. Back the Sooners -14.5 Saturday night.
