Week 8 of the College Football season got started Wednesday night with some Funbelt action and two more games Thursday night get fans ready for week 8 of the college football season.
The first game of the night takes place in Jonesboro, Arkansas as the Arkansas State Red Wolves welcome the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns for some mid-week Funbelt action. Both teams enter action at 1-1 in the conference and a win will see them either remain one game back of UL-Monroe or see them tied with the Warhawks going into week 9.
The Thursday nightcap will feature a Pac-12 battle between the 1-5 UCLA Bruins and the 3-3 Stanford Cardinal. The Bruins will look to move to 2-2 in Pac-12 play while the Cardinal will look to move to 3-2 in conference play.
Below is my pick for the Thursday night college football action. All lines are from the FanDuel Sportsbook.
UL-Lafayette (-6.5) at Arkansas State: O/U 67 points (-110/-110)
The Ragin’ Cajuns four game winning streak came to a halt last week against the undefeated Appalachian State Mountaineers. ULL went into that game averaging over 44 points per game, but were only able to score seven points in their 17-7 defeat. Louisiana-Lafayette is now 4-2 in 2019 and are 1-1 in the Sunbelt. The Rajin’ Cajuns are the 6th ranked rushing team averaging 282.2 yards per game and are still averaging 38.2 points per game.
Arkansas State’s brief two game winning streak came to an end in their last game as the Red Wolves fell at Georgia Southern 52-38 a few weeks back. The Red Wolves were coming off wins over Southern Illinois and at Troy, but the Georgia Southern offense was too much for Arkansas State to contain. ASU is 14th in the nation in passing yards per game (317.2) and are averaging 40.4 points per game.
Series History: Louisiana-Lafayette leads the all-time series 24-20-1 after coming away with a 47-43 win last season.
Game Prediction: I like the over in this one
UCLA at Stanford (-7): O/U 52.5 points (-110/-110)
UCLA is coming off a bye week and will look to end their two game losing streak against the Stanford Cardinal Thursday night. The Bruins started the season by scoring 14 points in three straight losses and then UCLA randomly dropped 67 points to knock off then #19 Washington State, in Pullman, 67-63. Since then UCLA fell 20-17 at a very injured Arizona team and then had a real bad 48-31 home loss to the Oregon State Beavers.
Stanford has been able to right the ship a bit since their 1-3 start with two straight wins over Oregon State and then #15 Washington. The Cardinal opened their season with a 17-7 win over Northwestern and then fell at USC, at then #17 UCF and at home against then #16 Oregon.
Series History: UCLA leads the all0time series 45-42-3, but Stanford has won the last 11 meetings between these two dating back to 2009.
Game Prediction: I wouldn’t touch this game with a 10 foot pole, but if I had to take it I would back Stanford at -7.
YTD College Football Results: 18-13
