The Los Angeles Chargers have announced the schedule and location for their 2022 training camp. Training camps offer the chance for players to undergo intense preparation for the season. Meanwhile, fans have the opportunity to check the team’s roster composition and predict how they will perform later.
The Chargers will return to Jack Hammett Sports Complex in Costa Mesa, which they have used since 2017. Their training camp will begin from July 27 to August 18, with several days of break in between.
The public can attend ten practices, starting on July 28 at 9:15 a.m. PDT. On July 30, there will be a Back Together Saturday. People attending the training camp that day will receive opportunities to win gifts. Additionally, there are two practices exclusive to Bolt Fam season members on August 17 and 18.

The team used a fourth-round pick to take in Isaiah Spiller from Texas A&M. Head coach Brandon Staley has said that Spiller is “a complete back”. He is not only a good runner but also a decent pass-catcher. He is a contender for Austin Ekeler’s backup. Spiller’s addition makes competition within the group increasingly tough. There are also Joshua Kelley and Larry Rountree III, who will compete for the running-back position with Spiller.
ESPN’s Lindsey Thiry predicted that Spiller would be chosen due to his versatility. Rookie backs usually do not get the chance to play early because they slowly adjust to playing offense. However, coach Staley observed him playing at Texas A&M and said he was different.
“Mentally, he was responsible for a lot there,” said Staley. “He was a three-down back.”
For the defense side, the chargers have several promising players, including Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack. The Chargers acquired Mack earlier this year from the Chicago Bears. Mack is a three-time All-Pro and has recorded 76.5 sacks in eight seasons of his career.
In the offseason period, the Chargers added J.C. Jackson to their roster, who signed a 5-year, $82.5 million deal with the team. Analysts have said that Jackson has good ball-hawking skills, which will help the quarterback to get a hold of the ball more often.
However, Thiry suggested that the team extend the contract for Derwin James Jr. if they want a successful season. James entered the last season of his rookie contract with the Chargers this year. He is a key player in the team’s defense due to his playmaking skills and leadership quality. Not only that, James has shown versatility on the field from time to time.
For the quarterback position, Justin Herbert is still a top contender. In the last two seasons, the athlete proved himself to be an elite player. In 2021, he ranked third in the major league’s QBR, behind Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady, with 65.6. Herbert also recorded 5,014 yards pass and 38 touchdowns, which placed him in second and third ranks, respectively.
Thiry wrote that the superb stats were not enough. The quarterback should translate his stats into wins for the Chargers. Last season the Charges recorded 9-8-0. They ranked third in the AFC West Division.
