The NFL Preseason rolls along when the Denver Broncos visit the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday, August 21, 2021. Denver opened the preseason with a 33-6 demolition of the Minnesota Vikings and the Seahawks fell 20-7 at the Las Vegas Raiders. This game will air live at 10:00 p.m. EST.
One of the few QB battles this training camp is taking place in Denver where Drew Lock, who started 13 games for Broncos last season, will look to hold off Teddy Bridgewater, who has started 49 games throughout his six seasons in the NFL. Head coach Vic Fangio said he was “pretty damn close” to naming a starting QB and that decision could come after this Seahawks game. Drew Lock has been leading the first stringers during training camp.
Seattle has far less position battles heading into their second preseason game, but one key battle to look at is starting cornerback role. The top three candidates are Ahkello Witherspoon, the free agent signing from San Francisco, Tre Flowers, who is entering his fourth season with Seattle, and D.J. Reed, who started games at the position last season. Right now, Witherspoon seems like a surefire starter on one side, but that second spot will be up for grabs between Flowers, Reed, and rookie Tre Brown.
Below is my best bet for preseason action between the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks. All lines are from BetMGM Sportsbook.
Spread: Denver Broncos (-5.5) at Seattle Seahawks
Total: O/U 37.5 (-110/-110)
Denver Broncos at Seattle Seahawks Pick:
Denver opened their preseason with an impressive 33-6 win at the Minnesota Vikings and saw their two QBs ball out. Drew Lock started the game and went 5/7 for 151 yards and two touchdowns, but Teddy Bridgewater wasn’t too shabby himself as the veteran QB went 7/8 for 74 yards and one touchdown. KJ Hamler, who could have a breakout season, hauled in two balls for 105 yards and one touchdown. The Broncos defense allowed just 79 passing yards, 235 yards total, and forced one interception. It was an impressive preseason debut for Vic Fangio’s team.
Seattle played in one of the, many, preseason games, that lacked any true important players when they fell 20-7 at the Las Vegas Raiders. Very few Seahawks starters played and not much can be taken away from this game, a theme that should be expected over their final two preseason games.
Series History: Denver leads the all-time series 35-21 and has outscored Seattle 1284-1135.
Game Prediction: The Broncos have a position battle at a key place and will be trying for a quarter, or more, so give me Denver -5.5.
