Just a pair of games in the WNBA tonight, so we’ll look at the late game between the Indiana Fever (4-18) and the Dallas Wings (10-13).
Indiana at Dallas Betting Odds
The Wings are favored by 8 and the total on the game is 160.
Indiana Fever
Indiana’s three-game winning streak right before the Olympic break is now a thing of the past, as the Fever have dropped both games since play resumed, although they have played both teams tough, losing by five to the Sparks and by four to the Phoenix Mercury. The Fever will have an extended break after this one, with their next game not until Aug. 28 when they return home.
The Fever have the worst record in the league and a large part of that has to do with the team’s defense, which allows 44.8% shooting and 36.9% from long range. The Fever aren’t a great offensive team in their own right, but do have four players averaging double-digits on the season, led by Kelsey Mitchell and her 16.5 points per game. The Fever had chances in the first two games back, but came up short in the end, while not covering against L.A. and at least getting the money against Phoenix.
Dallas Wings
The Wings are coming off a decent win at Chicago, although it was a pretty ugly game, with both teams shooting poorly from the field and making some turnovers. Dallas has played a little bit better on the road than they have at home so far, going 4-6 in front of the home fans and 6-7 away from home.
Dallas only shoots 42.4% from the field, but are pretty solid from 3-point range, where they hit on 36.7% of their shots, so they should have some success against the Fever, who aren’t good at defending the 3-point shot. Dallas has three players who shoot better than 40% from 3-point range, so should be able to keep the Fever from keying on one particular player. Arike Ogunbowale leads Dallas with 18.8 points per game.
Indiana at Dallas Pick
Dropped the last play to fall to 28-17-1 for the season, but will come right back with the Wings over 160, as they should find Indiana’s defense a little more to their liking they did Chicago. Even though the scoring was down in Dallas’ last game, the tempo was a bit higher than it was against Connecticut. The Fever are allowing 89.0 points on the road, worst in the league, while Dallas allows 85.1 at home.
