Why Bet The Falcons:
✅ The Falcons do not have a win yet this season, but they have been a better team than the Seahawks so far this year. They are even on yards per play allowed this season, and superior in yards per play gained. Their offense has performed well against two quality defenses against the Rams and Saints, and should be able to continue that trend here against a lackluster Seattle defense.
✅ Geno Smith did not follow up on his performance against the Broncos in Week 1 when he faced the 49ers in Week 2. Seattle scored just seven points in that game, with Smith failing to reach 200 passing yards. If not for a ton of mistakes from the Broncos in Week 1, the Seahawks could easily be 0-2 this year. Here, they will lose again barring a comedy of errors from the Atlanta Falcons.
✅ Through two weeks, the running game for the Seahawks has been atrocious. No Seattle player has rushed for more than 75 yards through two weeks. Meanwhile, Cordarrelle Patterson is a top-10 back in the NFL in terms of rushing yardage. Atlanta is better on the ground and can use that advantage to win this game on the road should their passing game falter.
Atlanta Falcons
The Atlanta Falcons are off to an 0-2 start this season, against one of the more difficult opening schedules in the NFL. They lost back to back games against the New Orleans Saints and Los Angeles Rams, and will look to get into the win column here against the first opponent they will have a real expectation of beating. In order to do that, though, the Falcons will need to improve defensively from what they have shown so far.
Through two games, the Falcons have allowed an average of 29 points per game, as they were particularly overmatched by the passing game of the Rams. Seattle has the least potent offense of any team the Falcons have played so far. But that will not matter if the Falcons cannot execute defensively.
Seattle Seahawks
Seattle won their season opener against the Denver Broncos, but followed that up with a loss to the San Francisco 49ers in Week 2. The Seahawks offense was shut down against the Niners, scoring just seven points. This week, the Seahawks will aim to move to 2-0 at home, but will need to improve their defense against a multi-faceted Falcons offense.
Seattle has been gashed on the ground so far this season, giving up 146 rushing yards per game through two weeks. Atlanta’s offensive strength is its running game, as Cordarrelle Patterson and Marcus Mariota can both really hurt opponents on the ground. Seattle has to be better in that area to avoid falling to 1-2 and losing for the first time at home.
