Washington Nationals at Atlanta Braves – MLB Odds, Preview & Prediction – 09/05/20

A National League East battle continues Saturday, September 5, 2020, when the Washington Nationals (13-24) visit the Atlanta Braves (23-15) for game two of their four game series. The Atlanta Braves lead the NL East by two games over the Philadelphia Phillies, while the Nationals are in last place and 7.5 games back of the second place Phillies. This game will air live on ESPN+ at 7:10 p.m. EST.

Atlanta used two Ronald Acuna Jr. home runs to win game one of the Friday double header 7-1. Washington bounced back, thanks to a five run third inning, to win the second bill of that double header 10-9. Washington needs to win the final two games of this series if they want any hope of sneaking into the playoffs.

Below is my pick for the Major League Baseball showdown between the Washington Nationals and Atlanta Braves. All odds are from DraftKings Sportsbook.

Washington Nationals (+205) at Atlanta Braves (-250)

Pitching Matchup: Erick Fedde (1-3, 4.71 ERA, 1.40 WHIP) vs Max Fried (6-0, 1.60 ERA, 1.00 WHIP)

Erick Fedde is set to make his fifth start of 2020, a third in a row, as the righty looks to rebound from two poor starts in a row. Fedde has been effective out of the bullpen this season, but starts have not been great in 2020. In his last two starts, Fedde has given up a combined 11 hits and 10 earned runs in 11 innings pitched.

Max Fried is one of the National League Cy Young favorites as the lefty has been lights out all season. Fried gave up more than one earned run in a start for the first time last time out when he gave up two earned runs to the Boston Red Sox. The lefty’s stats this season are insane as he has given up just 31 hits and eight earned runs in 45 innings pitched.

Batting Stats:

Shortstop Trea Turner and left fielder Juan Soto have sparked the Nationals offense in 2020 as Soto leads the team a .453 on base percentage, .758 slugging, and 1.211 OPS. Soto also leads the team with 11 home runs and 26 RBI’s. Turner leads the team with a .364 batting average

First baseman Freddie Freeman and designated hitter Marcell Ozuna have carried the Braves offense so far in 2020. Freeman leads the team with a .323 batting average and .441 on base percentage, while Ozuna leads Atlanta with a .633 slugging and 1.034 OPS. Ozuna also leads the team with 12 home runs and 32 RBI’s.

MLB Picks: It is not great value but I am going to back the Atlanta Braves in this one.

2020 Picks Record: 43-29
