The Tampa Bay Rays (33-19) look for the three-game sweep of the Toronto Blue Jays (21-34). Blake Snell (3-4 3.07 ERA) takes the hill for the Rays while Trent Thornton (1-4 4.42 ERA) goes out for the Blue Jays.

Thornton has had an up and down year. Making his 12th start this season, Thornton has four starts allowing one earned run or less and four starts allowing four or more earned runs. Home runs have been a bit of a problem for Thornton, already allowing 10 this year. His 25 walks in 55 innings have been trouble as well, contributing to his 1.27 WHIP. Thornton battled the Rays back on April 12 and gave up five earned runs in just three innings, including eight hits and three home runs.

Other than two starts this season, Snell has looked about as good as he did last year when he won the A.L. Cy Young Award. His 1.01 WHIP is one of the best in the A.L. Snell has 78 strikeouts in 55 ⅔ innings. Snell pitched against the Blue Jays back on April 13. He went six scoreless innings only allowing one hit with nine strikeouts.

Tampa Bay should be able to complete this sweep tonight. Snell is starting to settle in this season and his last performance against the Blue Jays was one of his best of the season. Thornton hasn’t pitched bad at times this year either, but the Rays offense has the eighth-best batting average in baseball, so they should be able to cause him some problems today. The Rays have allowed the least amount of runs this season and the second least amount of hits. The Blue Jays 27th ranked offense will struggle to score today. The Rays get the win and the UNDER should stay intact with a strong outing by Snell and a decent one by Thornton.
