Total O/U: 8.5

The Blue Jays (5-11) have had a rough first few weeks to start the season. Their one bright spot has been their pitching, especially Matt Shoemaker (3-0 0.92 ERA), who gets the start today. Shoemaker will be going up against the Minnesota Twins (8-4) and pitcher Martin Perez (1-0 7.56 ERA).

Shoemaker has pitched 19 ⅔ innings so far this season, only allowing two earned runs and nine hits while striking out 19. Shoemaker’s 0.71 WHIP is second best in the A.L. (Shane Bieber).

Perez has made three appearances so far this season, but this will be his first start. He hasn’t pitched more than 3 ⅔ innings in any one game yet this season, but has given up at least one earned run and two walks in each outing. His 2.40 WHIP is one of the worst in baseball.

The Blue Jays haven’t had much offense yet this season, only scoring 3.5 runs per game (25th), but having Shoemaker on the mound with the way he is pitching so far this season, gives a chance to win any game. I think their offense can find its stride in this game, as they have a good matchup against Perez. They should have Perez out of this game early, somewhere around the fourth inning and then have a chance to take on the Twins bullpen. Shoemaker has another good outing and helps the Blue Jays get a win (would have four of the teams six wins with a win today) in a low scoring affair.
