The American League Championship Series continues Tuesday, October 13, 2020, with the Houston Astros and Tampa Bay Rays set to play game three of their seven game series. Houston is technically the home team in this one, but the whole series is being played in San Diego. This game will air live on TBS at 8:40 p.m. EST.
Game one of this series took place Sunday night and saw the Tampa Bay Rays grind out a 2-1 victory. The Astros jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead, in the top of the first inning, thanks to a Jose Altuve solo home run. Tampa fought back to tie it up with a Randy Arozarena solo home run in the bottom of the fourth, and then took the lead with a Mike Zunino RBI single in the bottom of the fifth.
Tampa Bay jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead, thanks to a Manny Margot three-run shot in the bottom of the first inning, and never looked backed. The Rays ultimately won game two 4-2 and were able to get out of a bases loaded jam in the top of the ninth inning. Tampa Bay now has a commanding 2-0 series lead.
After the game one win, Tampa Bay is now -1000 to win the series. Houston can be grabbed at +620 to advance to the World Series.
Below is my pick for the Tampa Bay Rays vs Houston Astros. All odds are from BetMGM Sportsbook.
Tampa Bay Rays (-112) vs Houston Astros (-104)
Pitching Matchup (Playoffs): Ryan Yarbrough (0-0, 3.60 ERA, 1.40 WHIP) vs Jose Urquidy (0-0, 5.19 ERA, 1.15 WHIP)
Ryan Yarbrough made his first 2020 postseason start in the NLDS and received a no-decision in the New York Yankees 5-1 game four win. Yarbrough went five innings and allowed the Yankees to notch six hits and two earned runs.
Jose Urquidy has pitched in both Astros series so far and has yet to get out of the fifth inning. Urquidy started game two of the ALWCS and held the Minnesota Twins to two hits and one earned run in 4.1 innings pitched. The righty then pitched game three of the ALDS and got roughed up by the Oakland Athletics, allowing five hits and four earned runs in 4.1 innings pitched. Urquidy will need to last more than 4.1 innings in this one if Houston wants to get back in this series.
MLB Predictions: I like the Houston Astros to get their first win of the ALCS.
