Total O/U: 8

The St. Louis Cardinals (17-10) and the Washington Nationals (12-14) begin a a four-game set today. Michael Wacha (1-0 4.64 ERA) gets the start for the Cardinals and will go up against Patrick Corbin (2-0 2.48 ERA). The Cardinals have been on a tear the past 10 games (8-2) and the Nationals have struggled in their last nine (3-6). Today is the day that those fortunes will turn.

Michael Wacha has pitched pretty well this season, aside from one start against the Dodgers a few weeks ago (3 ⅔ innings, seven earned runs, and three home runs). One issue that has continuously been causing him problems is his command. Wacha has walked 14 batters in 21 ⅓ innings and as a result, has a WHIP of 1.59.

Patrick Corbin has been the best pitcher on the Nationals roster so far this season. In his five starts, Corbin has struck out 39 batters while only walking six with a 0.92 WHIP (third-best in the N.L.). Corbin has lasted at least six innings in each outing so far this season and has only allowed 11 hits in his last 20 ⅔ innings.

Corbin will continue his great start to the season and the Cardinals will have trouble battling the lefty. Wacha will put together a decent game as well, but won’t be able to keep up with Corbin for seven innings. The Nationals will take a nice sized lead midway through this game and their bullpen will finally be able to hold onto a win while only having to pitch a couple of innings. The Over should hit in this one in the eighth or ninth inning.
