A National League Central battle continues Tuesday, September 15, 2020, when the St. Louis Cardinals (21-21) visit the Milwaukee Brewers (21-25) for game three of their five game series. The Cardinals are in second place in the NL Central, four games back of the Cubs and 1.5 games ahead of the Cincinnati Reds. Milwaukee is in fourth place in the NL Central and trail the Cardinals by two games. This game will air live on ESPN+ at 7:40 p.m. EST.
This series got started Monday with a double header that saw each team grab a win. Milwaukee won game one in eight innings, but St. Louis fought back in game two with a 3-2 win.
Below is my pick for the St. Louis Cardinals at Milwaukee Brewers. All odds are from SugarHouse Sportsbook.
St. Louis Cardinals (-148) at Milwaukee Brewers (+128)
Pitching Matchup: Jack Flaherty (3-1, 3.08 ERA, 1.03 WHIP) vs Brett Anderson (2-3, 4.64 ERA, 1.39 WHIP)
Jack Flaherty has had a nice 2020 season, but the Cardinals are limiting his pitches and not allowing him to go too far into games. Flaherty has started six games this season and has yet to give up more than three earned runs in a start or go more than seven innings. Besides for his first start of the year, Flaherty has not pitched more than five innings in a game. Flaherty has given up nine earned runs and 19 hits in 26.1 innings pitched this season.
Brett Anderson is set to make his eighth start of 2020 and will look to bonce back from two consecutive rough starts. In his last two starts, Anderson has given up eight earned runs and 15 hits in just 10.0 innings pitched. Anderson allowed 10 runs (nine earned) and 24 hits in 23.0 innings pitched in his five previous starts.
It has been the Paul Goldschmidt show in St. Louis this season as the first baseman leads the team with a .312 batting average, .439 on base percentage, .500 slugging, .939 OPS, and is tied with Brad Miller for a team high six home runs. Goldschmidt’s .439 on base percentage is third in the majors. Miller leads the team with 23 RBI’s.
Keston Hiura has been the best offensive player on Milwaukee this season, but that isn’t saying much, as the second baseman leads the team with a .436 slugging, .746 OPS, 11 home runs, and 26 RBI’s. Center fielder Avisail Garcia leads the team with a .254 batting average and a .366 on base percentage.
