St. Louis Cardinals at Chicago Cubs – MLB Odds, Preview & Prediction – 09/06/20

A key NL Central battle continues Sunday, September 6, 2020, when the St. Louis Cardinals (16-15) visit the Chicago Cubs (23-17) for game four of their five game series. The Chicago Cubs leads the NL Central by 2.5 games over the Cardinals and are four games ahead of the Brewers. This game will air live on ESPN at 8:00 p.m. EST.

The Cardinals have taken two of the first three in this series thanks to a double header sweep on Saturday. Chicago rode the arm of Yu Darvish to win game one of this series 4-1. St. Louis came back Saturday and won game one of the double header 4-2 and game two 5-1. This series could have some series playoff implications, so all eyes will be on Sunday Night Baseball.

Below is my pick for the Major League Baseball showdown between the St. Louis Cardinals at Chicago Cubs. All odds are from BetRivers Sportsbook.

St. Louis Cardinals (-108) at Chicago Cubs (-108)

Pitching Matchup: Dakota Hudson (1-2, 2.77 ERA, 0.92 WHIP) vs Jon Lester (2-1, 5.11 ERA, 1.32 WHIP)

Dakota Hudson had a rough opening start in 2020, but has rebounded nicely since. Hudson gave up seven hits and four earned runs, in just 4.1 innings pitched, in his opening start, but since has given up just four earned runs total. In his last four starts, Hudson has allowed nine hits and five runs (four earned) in 21.2 innings pitched.

Jon Lester has either been brilliant or been lit up in each start this season. In four combined starts, Lester has given up a combined three runs and 15 hits in 22 innings pitched. However, in Lester’s other three starts he has given up 18 earned runs and 26 hits in just 15 innings pitched. Will the Cubs get good Lester of bad Lester tonight?

Batting Stats:

It has been the Paul Goldschmidt show in St. Louis this season as the first baseman leads the Cardinals with a .323 batting average, .472 on base percentage, .490 slugging, and .962 OPS. Designated hitter Brad Miller leads the team with five home runs and 20 RBI’s.

Ian Happ is putting up MVP type numbers this season and the center fielder is carrying this Cubs offense. Happ leads the team with a .310 batting average, .418 on base percentage, .674 slugging, and a 1.093 OPS. The second baseman also leads the team with 12 home runs and 24 RBI’s.
