Betting Odds: Seattle-125/Kansas City+115

Total O/U: 9

The Seattle Mariners (9-2) will head to Kansas City on Monday to take on the Royals (2-6) in the first of a four-game set. Felix Hernandez (1-0 1.69 ERA) will get the start on his 33rd birthday and will go up against another veteran who turns 33 this, Homer Bailey (0-0 5.40 ERA).

The Mariners are off to the best start in baseball and their offense has been a big reason why. The Mariners are scoring 7.7 runs per game and averaging nearly 10 hits as well. The Mariners are in the top five of almost all major offensive categories, including runs, hits, average, OBP, SLG, OPS, HR and SB.

The Royals, on the other hand, are on a six-game losing streak.

The Royals have struggled on both sides of the ball the season, but mainly their pitching. They are ranked 24th or worse in the league in ERA, WHIP, K/9, and BAA. The offense isn’t strong enough to make up for their lackluster pitching, despite scoring 4.3 runs per game.

The Mariners offense should have no problem getting to Homer Bailey early in this one. Bailey, who has a career ERA of 4.57, has been struggling even worse the last few years of his career (6.65 ERA in 2016, 6.43 in 2017 and 6.09 in 2018, including going 1-14 last season.

Hernandez should pitch well today on his birthday, and his offense will give him plenty of run support to help him get the win. Mariners should win this one by a handful of runs, maybe even getting the OVER on their own.
