San Diego Padres at Colorado Rockies -130
The Padres will start Ryan Weathers (4-5, 4.72) as they travel to and open their series in Colorado at Coors Field. It will be Antonio Senzatela (2-9, 4.72) on the mound for the Rockies at home. DraftKings has the Rockies set as a -130 favorite.
Both of these teams have a huge difference in their home/road splits. The Rockies are actually the stone worst road team in the league, but are 17 games over .500 at home. They have the benefit of being the home team in this series and have other factors working to their advantage. The playoff contending Padres are actually a losing road team, while they are 16 games over .500 in the comforts of home. Their home/road split is not as lopsided as that of the Rockies, but it is noticeable.
Both teams are alike in the sense that they are both far better against left handed pitching. The Rockies reap the benefit today of facing the lefty, while the Padres will be against a right hander.
The particular left handed pitcher the Rockies are facing is a huge advantage. Ryan Weathers has been among the worst in baseball over the past couple of weeks, and now has to pitch in Coors Field. In his last three starts, all losses, he has allowed 20 earned runs over 11 and two thirds innings pitched. He has allowed at least six earned in each of those appearances and has not lasted more than four and two thirds in any of those starts. Additionally he’s given up six home runs in those three starts, a problem that will be magnified in Coors. All signs point to Weathers being rocked and rocked early.
Antonio Senzatela is far from a world beater for the Rockies, but he has been quite serviceable at home. He’s not lost a home start since early May and is simply a pitcher that has loads of problems on the road. That will not be an issue for him tonight.
With just a -130 price tag, the Rockies are in a great spot to outscore the Padres at home.
