An American League West showdown concludes on Thursday, August 27, 2020, when the Oakland Athletics (22-10) visit the Texas Rangers (11-19) for game four of this four-game series. Oakland leads the AL West by 4.5 games, over the Houston Astros, and Texas sits in fourth place, 10 games back of Oakland. This game will air live on FOX at 6:37 p.m. EST.
Oakland has had a good first three games as they currently lead the series 3-1. Texas one a sleepy game one 3-2, but Oakland woke up and came away with a 10-3 win on Tuesday. Oakland had to come from behind in game three but were able to walk away with a 3-1 victory.
Below is my pick for the Major League Baseball showdown between the Oakland Athletics and Texas Rangers. All odds are from BetRivers Sportsbook.
Oakland Athletics (-195) at Texas Rangers (+165)
Pitching Matchup: Chris Bassitt (2-1, 2.97 ERA, 1.08 WHIP) vs Jordan Lyles (1-3, 9.25 ERA, 1.89 ERA)
Chris Bassitt prepares for his seventh start this season and will look to rebound from a couple of poor starts. Bassitt was lights out to start the season, but the right has given up 11 runs (nine earned) and 16 hits in 16.2 innings pitched. Prior to these most recent starts, Bassitt gave up a combined two earned runs and 11 hits in 16.2 innings pitched.
Jordan Lyles has gotten roughed up this season and will look to pitch into the fifth inning for the first time in two starts. Lyles has been lit up his last two starts as the righty has been shelled for 15 runs (14 earned) and 18 hits over eight innings of work. Lyles has yet to give up less than three earned runs in any starts in 2020.
Oakland has been extremely balanced at the plate this season as five different players lead the major offensive categories. Center fielder Mark Canha leads with a .278 batting average, first baseman Matt Olsson powers the way with 10 home runs, and right fielder Stephen Piscotty leads the way with 26 RBI’s. Left fielder is getting on base at a team high .427 clip and shortstop Marcus Semien leads the way with 32 hits.
Second baseman Nick Solak and first center fielder Joey Gallo have been powering the Texas Rangers offense this season. Solak leads with a .269 batting average, 28 hits, and a .250 on base percentage. Gallo is powering the way with seven home runs and 16 RBI’s.
