New York Yankees at Toronto Blue Jays – Odds, Preview & Prediction – 09/22/20

An American League East battle continues Tuesday, September 22, 2020, when the New York Yankees (31-23) visit the Toronto Blue Jays (28-26) for game two of their four game series. The Yankees have already clinched a playoff spot, and Toronto will clinch this week, so this series is all about seeding. New York is currently the fifth seed in the AL playoffs and Toronto is the eight seed. This game will air live on ESPN at 6:30 p.m. EST.

This series got started on Monday and Blue Jays rookie Alejandro Kirk powered the Blue Jays to an 11-5 win. Kirk went 4-4 with one home run, one RBI, and three runs scored.

Below is my pick for the New York Yankees at Toronto Blue Jays. All odds are from DraftKings Sportsbook.

Odds: New York Yankees (-275) at Toronto Blue Jays (+225)

Pitching Matchup: Gerrit Cole (6-3, 3.00 ERA, 0.98 WHIP) vs Tanner Roark (2-2, 6.41 ERA, 1.75 WHIP)

Gerrit Cole is back to being the dominant pitcher we have come to know as the righty rebounded from a tough middle of the season over his last three starts. In his last three starts, Cole has allowed nine hits and six runs (two earned) in 20.0 innings pitched. For the season, Cole has given up 48 hits and 26 runs (22 earned) in 6.0 innings worked.

Tanner Roark is having a rough go at it lately as the Blue Jays starting pitcher has been getting roughed up in September. In three September starts, two of which have been against these Yankees, Roark has allowed 15 hits and 12 earned runs in 12.1 innings pitched. This will be Roark’s third consecutive start against the New York Yankees.

Batting Stats:

It has been the DJ LeMahieu and Luke Voit show in New York this season as those two players are carrying a very banged up Yankees team. LeMahieu, the second baseman, leads the team with a .365 batting average, .420 on base percentage, and 1.032 OPS. The .365 batting average is tops in the majors and LeMahieu is top five in both on base percentage and OPS. First baseman Luke Voit is leading the way with a .640 slugging, 21 home runs, and 49 RBI’s. Voit is third in the majors in slugging, second in RBI’s, and leads the majors with those 21 home runs.

Teoscar Hernandez has had a great 2020 as the right fielder leads the Blue Jays with a .310 batting average, .632 slugging, .988 OPS, 16 home runs, and 32 RBI’s. Hernandez is fourth in the majors with that .632 slugging. Second baseman Cavan Biggio leads Toronto with a .372 on base percentage.

Free MLB Picks: I am backing Gerrit Cole and the red-hot New York Yankees.
